The Emperor's strike back

Both the BBC yesterday and several papers today (29/01/09) are erroneously peddling stories that the Emperor Penguins are dying out. They did a similar thing a few months back about Polar bears using only the Canadian Arctic as an example when they are thriving in Spitzbergen. Snow Hill Emperor penguin rookeryAgain they have taken a story from one US Research Station about a single colony of Emperors and fed this to the news channels and yesterday BBC breakfast luvvies then sobbed over it, having done no homework on it. Global warming is not to be belittled, especially as we now have a President who in one day has done more for it than the previous knuckleheaded government did in eight years, but the Emperors are not about to be wiped out. The only problem for those wanting to see these remarkable rookeries is the accessibility - only one ship can make this journey and it is becoming such a cost issue that this may be the last year ever to visit the colony at Snow Hill Island.  Spookily Exodus are doing a special departure on the 2nd of November this year.
