China Eclipse July 2009

The next eclipse to exceed this duration is in 123 years timeFancy experiencing the longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century on 22 July 2009? The next eclipse to exceed this duration is in 123 years time so why not book yourself on our China Eclipse trip while we still have places left.

You will view the eclipse in An Ji near the historic city of Hangzhou southwest of Shanghai, with a little over 5.5 minutes of totality. We also trace the remnants of China's imperial past discovering the Imperial Palace in Beijing along with the Hutongs (narrow alleys) near our hotel. A day trip to the impressive Great Wall at the lesser visited section of Simatai is also part of out itinerary while in the city that hosted the 2008 Olympics. Xian one of the countries former capital’s is home to the Terracotta Warriors a must see on any visit to China. We also visit Nanjing steeped in history, where the dreams of a Republic of China's ended in 1949. Shanghai is next on our list the hub of China’s economic boom, where the vestiges of its colonial past are still apparent along the bund and contrast with the modern high-rise financial district across the river.

In contrast to the cities we visit we also journey to Huang Shan, Suzhou and Tongli to see another side of China. Huang Shan with its spectacular mountain scenery is much beloved by Chinese poets and painters. Tongli’s surviving old parts of town are a throw back to medieval times and the network of tiny canals and bridges provide a quieter alternative to the hustle and bustle of the cities.

So if you want to experience something unique this year head to China or wait till 13 June 2132 for the next longer showing.
