Snow Report 04 December

December has arrived signaling it is time to dust off your skis and dig out your goggles!  Winter is well and truly here and we have been receiving lots of exciting reports of fresh snowfalls and great conditions throughout Europe.

The Pyrenees have got off to a great start to the season with the web cam in Ax-les-Thermes showing images of some good snow coverage and with more snow forecast over the weekend the ski station looks set to open on the 12th December: visit the webpage.

Chamonix in the French Alps has also had a superb start with snow falling right down to the valley floor:  view the webcam.   A depth of 90cm has already been recorded on the upper slopes in Argentiere and with a recorded temperature of -9°C this looks set to increase.

Slovenia too has seen its first snow flakes and our leader on the ground sent through this photo just this morning showing off the stunning snow covered Julian Alps.  Again more snow is set for the weekend and there are high hopes for a white Christmas.

The Italian and Austrian Alps have both been fairing well with many resorts set to have heavy snow over the weekend: View the webcam.  The cross country tracks are being prepared and most resorts are set to open imminently.

Looking further afield to Scandinavia, most resorts now have great snow coverage and have been up and running since mid November.  Further snow it predicted over the next few days with daytime temperatures averaging around -3°C.

All in all it looks like we are set for a great winter season, so get out there and enjoy the white stuff!
