Mudslides in Maderia

Update 11.30am 23/02/09: Contrary to recent media reports, our Operator informs us, the weather at the moment is normal seasonal weather, light rain with sunny periods, not what was experienced last weekend. Yesterday was warm and sunny, as the picture below displays.

Please advise all clients travelling to Madeira this weekend that all is well and the planned itinerary is scheduled to operate as normal.

Funchal afternoon of 23/02/2010

Update 5pm 23/02/2010 from our Operator in Madeira: The clean up has taken place and many of the cafés and stores are open for business again.

We would like to thank everyone for their support during these past few days while we endured the stormy weather on our small island.

Update 5.30pm: 22/02/2010 from our Operator in Madeira: The areas badly affected are Funchal and Ribeira Brava. The cleaning up process is currently taking place and should be completed towards the end of the week.

We want to stress that the situation is under control. All hotels are operational, our excursions and guided walks are taking place. We have some self guided walks that we are not able to do, some of which we are suggesting or have suggested alternative walks.

Today, 2 days after the floods, already we can see a dramatic improvement in the centre of Funchal. We are certain that you, too, will be informed of this improvement via the communication media.

Exodus currently has no clients on the island of Madeira. The severe weather has affected Funchal, the provincial capital of the island. The airport is unaffected.

We have been in touch with our local operator in Madeira who has confirmed that he will be able to run our trip, scheduled to depart next week, as the routes we use have not been affected.

We are constantly monitoring the situation and we will post another update on our website later today and throughout the week. Should anything change in the next few days, we will get in touch with all clients booked on the trips, as soon as we possibly can.
