Madagascar – Weird, wacky & wonderful

Lemurs in MadagascarMadagascar is like no place on earth, where 80 per cent of its species are endemic and where 80 different species of lemur alone inhabit the island, each with their own party piece.

David Attenborough narrates us through this intriguingly wild land in a three-part mini-series starting on 9th February on BBC Two at 8pm.

Where else can you find a place with a gecko that squeals like a banshee or a primate posing as a woodpecker?

The island has generated one of the best loved animated films of the last decade and this lavish BBC documentary has some of the finest wildlife footage ever recorded.

Avenue du Baobab However, nothing can ever substitute seeing this extraordinary island first hand. It has not only some of the most colourful and exotic creatures but also in the case of the Aye Aye, the most ugly.

Sadly Madagascar’s wild landscape is under threat. Attenborough concludes the show stating “It’s only in the last few decades that we’ve really started to appreciate this curious land. Let’s hope it’s not too late”.
