One Down, Three to Go

Despite last year being Brighton's baptism in the Marathon market, this was a remarkably well-organised race. The sun shone on spectators and scorched runners, especially those foolish enough to weigh themselves down with 13kgs of tiger.

Running 26 miles is tough but doing it on the hottest day of the year is lunacy. However, two ice baths later and an industrial aftersun lube session later and I am still in the frame... just.

Most of East Sussex turned up to watch and the support was incredible, both the mayor and the chief organiser remarked that the tiger was the best costume but also that the costume's message was not lost on them.

The money is beginning to flood in, the support from the team, especially Terry today who ran an extra seven miles giving out the One Pound for Tiger Found cards was incredible.

Louisa has organised this with something approaching Teutonic efficiency, but the real struggle starts now. Several hundred thousand supporters make a huge difference; a few commuters and shoppers in Manchester and Cardiff will be much harder.

I hurt, badly, wrung out by the heat but I can still walk. The poet would not be proud but my current message is 'Tiger, Tiger, burning bright, tomorrow my legs will feel like sh**!'

Thank you again for the incredibly generous donations. Paul Goldstein.
