Finland hits the big screen in action thriller Hanna

Finland is currently enjoying its fair share of limelight on the big screen in hit blockbuster Hanna. Starring Saoirse Ronan of The Lovely Bones fame, Cate Blanchett and Eric Bana, it is the biggest film production Finland has ever seen.

Following the extraordinary life of a young girl growing up in the wilds of Finland to become a deadly assassin, the film’s opening scenes sweep over the frozen wilderness of Oulanka National Park. Set in northeast Finland, Oulanka National Park is also home to Exodus’ wilderness lodge, Basecamp Oulanka, used on our Finnish Wilderness Week and Snowshoeing in Finland trips.

For director Joe Wright, the filming locations were a top priority, even rewriting scenes to fit around the places he had chosen. Keen to use real snow, he decided to take the shoot to Finland and right to the doorstep of Basecamp Oulanka.

As the 16-year-old Hanna is dispatched on her mission across Europe, viewers are dazzled by locations that are as captivating as the plot.
