Last Chance to Trek Inca Trail in 2011

Last Chance to Trek Inca Trail in 2011In this centenary year of Hiram Bingham’s 'rediscovery' of Machu Picchu, Peru’s iconic Inca Trail trek remains as popular as ever.

Trekking permits have now sold out almost until the end of October with only limited numbers left for Inca Trail treks in November and December. So if want to hike the trail this year, we recommend booking soon to avoid disappointment.

Overlooking Machu Picchu, PeruIf you’d like to trek in Peru before then, don’t despair! The remote, high-altitude Moonstone Trek is the perfect Inca Trail substitute and is available on all trips that offer the classic four-day Inca Trail. No permits are required on this route, so even when the Inca Trail has sold out you can still experience the delights of Andean trekking.

Alternatively, try our extended trek to Choquequirao – an incredible Inca site that is strikingly similar to Machu Picchu. It is one of the best-preserved ruins in the Peruvian Andes but with only a handful of visitors each day, you’ll feel as pioneering as Bingham himself!

Of course you don’t have to be a trekker to enjoy Peru! We still have spaces on our Peru Explorer and Essential Peru trips, both of which visit many of Southern Peru's highlights: Machu Picchu, Cuzco, Lake Titicaca and the incredible coastal desert.
