You Too Can Be King
30th December 2011
On 31st December 2011 Sky 3D are collaborating with legendary wildlife expert David Attenborough and award winning producer Antho
ny Geffen to bring us the premier of the ground-breaking documentary The Bachelor King 3D.
This new and exciting film, shot in stunning 3D, is set in the remote yet enchanting sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia. Often referred to as the Galapagos of the Poles, South Georgia boasts seven species of penguin, and this film follows the lives of King Penguins. From adolescence to adulthood, set over 5 months, the ‘Bachelor King’ returns to his birth place in search of a mate. Not wanting to spoil the synopsis, we are sure to laugh and cry, especially with Attenborough’s perfect complimentary commentary adding to the dramatic backdrop of the South Georgian wilderness.
With the astonishing 3D technology, we are able to step into the world of the King Penguin - this being not only a privilege, but an honour. David Attenborough, writer and co-producer said, “I knew it would be mind-blowing, there are a number of extremely dramatic animals in South Georgia that would look particularly astounding in 3D. The difficulties are huge but the rewards are huge too. With 3D you can convey the reality of what’s in front of the camera in a much more powerful way than ever before.”
We do realise that not all our readers are able to view this on Sky 3D, so never fear! ‘The Bachelor King’ will be coming to cinematic theatres in 2012. So make sure you reach for those 3D specs and get yourself to your closest IMAX theatre – this film is going to blow all wildlife enthusiasts minds!
And if viewing the spectacle of millions of penguins in 3D doesn’t take you close enough to the action, drama and beauty then how about boarding a ship that will take you to the real South Georgia? Paul Goldstein, our veteran Polar expert, is planning a South Georgia Special for mid to late 2013. Big ice, big glaciers and an extended period there but only two weeks leave time. This will give almost a whole week among the rookeries, seals, albatrosses and dramatic scenery that make these islands the most spectacular and photogenic on earth, to say nothing of its history, and of course penguins aplenty.
With a trip like this, you too can be king.
