WWF Earth Hour - Switch Off Your Lights

The worldwide phenomenon of Earth Hour, an environmental awareness campaign started by the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF), has arrived at Exodus HQ. It’s an inspiring tale, one that celebrates the dedication and passion of people everywhere to care about our Earth.

At Exodus we take our planet seriously. Our wildlife encounters collection prides itself on the sensitive and respectful approach to both the fauna and their habitats;  our trekking trips aim to leave no trace of human litter and we work with organisations such as Pan Parks to protect and educate people about the wilderness areas that we visit.

We’ve set up projects the world over – installing solar cookers in remote villages in Nepal has prevented deforestation in search of firewood; our Yala Leopard project has significantly reduced conflict between leopards and local farmers by educating Sri Lankan people and improving the ways they protect their livestock. Wherever our holidays go, we never take a vacation from our responsibilities.

“I will if you will”

This is the slogan for Earth Hour this year – make a pledge for the environment if someone else will. So what will Exodus do in 2012?

We will: Organise all your train arrangements for you

If you: Take the train rather than a short haul flight. This reduces your carbon emissions (and waiting around time at airports) – plus it could save you money. Exodus sales team are happy to advise on which trains would suit your trip best as well as reserve your seats to make your journey as hassle free as if you chose the group flights.

We will: Double your donation

If you: Donate to our sponsored charity Baraka Community Partnerships. For 2012 an unnamed sponsor will match any donation to Baraka made via our website, which doubles the amount you donate and the difference your money makes. Even if you can only donate a little, knowing that you’re actually giving twice as much is a real bonus.

We will: Help you make a hands-on difference

If you: Book a ‘Get Involved’ holiday. Roll up your sleeves and really get stuck in to help one of our many community projects. We have projects in LaosZambia and Morocco to help improve the standard of living for some of the most remote communities we visit, and offer special departures to these destinations for you to help out in person.
