We have won another Award!

Mohamed, who travelled from Tijhza to collect the award on Exodus' behalf, sat with Zina from Peak MarrakeshWe’re delighted to announce that Exodus have won the Responsible Travel Award for Social and Economic Development for our efforts improving the quality of life in Tijhza village, Morocco.

The accolade was awarded by the Moroccan Ministry of Tourism in recognition of the efforts made by Exodus staff (and clients!) to help this isolated village high in the Atlas Mountains. Many of our trips to Morocco include a visit here, where tourism provides a source of income for many families.

The award ceremony in Rabat was attended by Mohamed, from the village, who is instrumental in everything that we do in Tijhza. The project was set up over 10 years ago by Exodus leader Andy McKee, in conjunction with the charity Baraka Community Partnerships . A traditional hammam bath has just been completed, which will improve hygiene and reduce illness in a village so remote that medical supplies are almost non-existent.

To read more about the project, go to our project page for Morocco.

To Get Involved in the project, we run a volunteering departure to specifically involve travellers with the project. Over the past few years our clients have helped with painting and decorating, planting trees, building irrigation channels and of course the hammam. If you’re feeling inspired to lend a hand, there are still spaces on our October departure.
