Happy Universal Children’s Day

UNHappy Universal Children’s Day

Today is Universal Children's Day and was set-up by the UN in 1954 to encourage understanding between children and promote children's welfare around the globe. All countries celebrate the day in different ways - in some countries children receive presents, in others they take part in events and activities or are allowed a holiday from school.

If you would like to help the lives of children then we have a number of projects that are set-up to do that. I recently travelled on Exodus’ Camels & Kasbahs Family Adventure and one of the highlights of the trip is to visit Exodus’ Tijhza project in the High Atlas Mountains. A group of us travelled there in the October half-term and helped paint the new Exodus-funded Hammam and build steps up to the entrance to the building. Read my blog about what the members of the group said were their highlights of the trip and you will see many thought volunteering at the village was a very special experience. We also enjoyed a 6-aside football match at the village school, with a team consisting of a rag-tag of Exodus clients, guides and local school children.

Exodus also offers the a Family Adventure in Zambia, the Zambezi Volunteer Experience, where we can experience some volunteer work – participating on animal protection walks, or visiting the children and assisting with the vegetable garden at a school.

Other children’s projects we support include the orphanage in Nepal (which you can visit on our Nepal trips) and the ALD Life charity in the UK.
