40th Sunrise

“The day starts cold & dark, very early, with a cup of tea before leaving the tea house at Gorak Shep, already at 5,180m, to begin the climb up Kala Pattar. Amazed at just how hard the altitude makes it to walk, it is a struggle with many, many stops. Eventually, the summit is reached, at 5,545m, and just after 7 am, I sit, looking across at Everest and Nuptse…I made it! And, then the sun rises over Nuptse…its rays filling the valley and warming my face…what a magical start to my 40th birthday!”

Exodus is pleased to announce the winners of our Feel More Alive competition for February 2013. Congratulations to Elsa Konig and Samantha Daniels who have both won holidays to The Amalfi Coast. Elsa will travel on our Walking the Amalfi Coast (TDA) trip and Samantha will travel on Amalfi Coast: Pompeii & Pizza (FVI).

Meeting the cousins

“2 days before the end of our holiday we arrive in Ruhengeri, Rwanda, to hike the mountain searching for wild gorillas. Our group progresses through hills and fields to the wall marking the beginning of the national park. We find our gorillas quickly after that and observe them in silence, our faces all smiles. Suddenly this toddler gorilla comes straight at me, unmoved by the warnings of the guards around me. He reaches out to lightly touch my knee looking straight into my camera and runs back to hide behind his mother. What a meeting!”

India's painted houses - the perfect stage!

“India's Haveli's are just awesome on their own, but add children into the mix and the whole scene comes to life - the children listened to the tales of the history of the houses then took matters into their own hands and showed us what they really thought - just priceless and proving to us how valuable travel experiences are for our children.”

January 2013 - Feel more alive - Winning moment

Exodus is delighted to announce the winner of our Feel More Alive competition for January 2013 and it is the ’moment’ added by Colette Frain called ‘Living the Dream’. The judging panel had almost one thousand entries to consider and it was a very difficult choice, but we were touched by this story and we unanimously agreed to award this entry the prize – a holiday for two to Nepal’s Everest Base Camp.

Colette's entry was:

"Don't know where or when the idea was born, just the necessity to see Machu Picchu. This dream came true as my sister and I reached the sun gate to open a letter my father had left us in his memory, "always face the sun , leave your shadows behind you". Don't put off today, what you may not get the chance to do tomorrow. Live the dream , next one...Kilimanjaro x".
