End of an Era - Kapitan Khlebnikov
Kapitan Khlebnikov • Ice Breaker • Passenger Numbers: 112
A polar-class ice breaker, combining power and technology with creature comforts. Originally designed for the rigours of northern Siberia, Kapitan Khlebnikov is one of a few vessels of its kind in the world. In Antarctica the ice breakers crushing power and on board helicopters make visits to the Emperor Penguin rookery possible.
End of an era
The ice breaker Kapitan Khlebnikov which has achieved so many Polar ‘expedition firsts’ is being taken back into full-time research duties in Spring 2012. Very few people ever embark on these ultimate expeditions in Antarctica and the High Arctic.
The ship has now departed on its final voyage before it ends its service.
