Tongariro Adventure Holidays
The Tongariro National Park contains some of New Zealand’s wildest volcanic scenery. The most recent eruptions have created slopes covered in dark, twisted lava and ash-laden plateaux which have yet to be colonised by vegetation. The Tongariro crossing is New Zealand’s finest day walk. The route takes you across a rugged volcanic landscape that has been formed by the activities of Mt Tongariro, Mt Ngauruhoe and Mt Ruapehu. The area was used as a location for scenes in The Lord of the Rings films with Mt Ngauruhoe doubling as the sinister Mt Doom.
