Anyone trekking to Kili leaving on the 25 Sept 2019?

Hi Cazza,

I'm on the lemosho route leaving london that day, is it the same trip as you?

I cant believe it's less than a month to go!

Hi Hazel,

Yes, its the same trip, leaving on the 25 September.  Really looking forward to it and to meeting everyone.  I've never done anything like this before, so it's a whole new adventure!  I hope your training is going well.

Caroline.

Hi,

I'm a mixture of excitement and nerves, mainly the altitude, but I'm sure we will be ok.

I've been doing some long bike rides and making sure I'm walking more than usual, it's hard to know how just how much to do.

Have you sorted your visa yet?

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone too

Hiya.  I managed to sort my visa out last month.  Did you see the note Exodus sent through regarding the new visa process when you arrive at the airport? My request for my visa came through within a week.  Have you got yours sorted out?  If you need any info regarding the form then give Exodus a buzz or let me know.  Have a fab weekend.

Hi,

Yes i was going to do it on arrival but after the email from exodus i did it online and received it in 3 days! So that's one less thing to worry about.

Think the only thing left to do now is get my travel money sorted, and I'm ready to go 🙂.

How about you?

Yes, I'm pretty much all sorted now as well.  I laid all my gear out last night and checked off nearly everything on the list that was sent through.  Apart from some new sunglasses, I'm pretty much ready to go. Perhaps we can drop each other a line a couple of days before we head out to meet up at the Airport? Have a good weeknd. Caroline

Hi Caroline or us Cazza ok?

I would like to meet at the airport, I'll be there stupidly early as I've got to get a train to London and then the tube so I should be arriving around 4:15! I'll be hanging around the departure hall.

Are you going to be wearing your walking stuff to travel? I'm not sure what to do?

Cant believe it's only just over two weeks before we go! Xx

Good morning,

Ha, ha, either Caroline or C is fine by me (Cazza is an old school nickname).  I'm aiming to get to the airport by 7pm at the very latest, one of my friends has said that she'll drop me off.  I always get to the airport as soon as I possibly can, it's been driving my friends mad for years.   I'm going to wear my walking trousers, boots and jacket, then pack any essentails into my carry on day-pack, Exodus recommend to pack any vital bits and bobs, just in case your checked-in bag gets delayed along the way.

I know, all of a sudden its come round very quickly. I'm starting to feel a little aprehensive now, but still very excited. I had a chat with one of the guys at the Altitude centre this morning and he said its great walking, nothing too taxing at all, apart from Summit night.

Look forward to meeting you in a couple of weeks time.

Caroline.

Hi

Only 8 days to go!

Have you used an altitude chamber? What is it like? There arnt any neer to me so I haven't been able to. I've been to altitude once before so just using that to gauge how my body reacts, and it's true, you have to go really slow!

I'm doing a practice pack today, so hopefully I have everything I need, cant wait to start it now :)

Hi Hazel,

Starting to get very excited now.  I was out on a training trek with the people I'm hiring my gear from last weekend and one of the ladies on the walk is doing the 6 day walk with Exodus and leaves 2 days after us.  In theory we should meet again at the hotel at the end of the trip, its a small world!  i've done 7 POD sessions, they are good and I got up to the Kili summit height.  Felt okay, albeit a biz dizzy.

I'll be packging and unpacking at the weekend.  I really don't want to bring lots of stuff with me that I won't wear.  Have you got a power pack? Just wondering if its worth getting one for just going mobile phone free?

I'm still at work until next Tuesday, then have one day off before flying out.  I'm sure it's going to be an amazing experience.

See you next week, Caroline

Anna and I (in our 40's ) walked the Lemosho route with Exodus a few yrs ago - its a fantastic walk, not very taxing as there is plenty of time .... the guides say 'Pole Pole' (pronounced Polay Polay) to you all the time = slowly slowly in Swahili, so you dont rush, and thereby you acclimatise well. The last nights push to the top is steep but no dramas really. You will love it. Enjoy.

Hi there.  Thank you for your note.  I've been watching a couple of Kili trek videos on-line and they differ from one person to the next.  All positive through, which is great.  Your note has alleved any fears and apprehensions I've been feeling.  I hope you are off on another adventure.  Cheers, Caroline

Your very welcome Caroline - you have nothing to be concerned about on that route, it’s the best one to follow for acclimatisation and for simply enjoying the trip, other routes are over a shorter timeline and that’s when people struggle. Why rush an adventure like that I say, slower the better. Often you walk only until lunchtime/early afternoon and that’s it for the day - chill and enjoy the view or go explore a bit. Do opt for a foam mattress i strongly suggest, one lady on our trip chose not to have one and slept on the rock floor of her tent every night - looked totally shattered every morning! - there is no soft grass on Kili - it’s rock all the way Lol!

Yes, my son (12) and I are heading to the Atlas and Sahara in Oct.

have fun.
