Discover Sri Lanka 23/03/19

Hi fellow Exodus travellers,

I’ve just booked on the Discover Sri Lanka tour on 23/03/19 and I’m sure, as always, this Exodus tour won’t fail to please.

I’ve done a couple of walking tours with Exodus in Italy, the groups have always been good fun and have bonded well together. I did these walking tours with my sister, after my husband passed away in 2016. This next trip I will be taking as a solo traveller, as my sister has other plans.

So I’m wondering ...has anyone else booked this tour for 23rd March ?

Looking forward to meeting any fellow travellers!

Mandy 😎

Hi Mandy

My wife Teresa and I are on the same trip (23 03 19). We had our first experience of Asia last year in Vietnam and Cambodia, we loved it! Looking forward to visiting Sri Lanka and some great food. This is my second trip with Exodus, First was in Tanzania Around 10 years ago. We usually plan our holidays independently but enjoyed traveling in a small group so much last year we thought we would do it again.

Hi Richard & Teresa, How lovely to hear from you!I was only re-reading the trip notes yesterday and was thinking what a great itinerary that they've set! This will be my third exodus trip, both the previous were to Italy and were totally amazing. I agree,  the small group tours are so good, with lots of similar minded, friendly folk on the trips. My husband and I also used to travel extensively and mainly planned our own trips ... this will be my first completely solo trip since his passing... I'm a little apprehensive, but know really, that all will be fine with Exodus! The reviews all seem fantastic, so let's hope that our trip goes just as well. The only thing that looks slightly unfavourable is that a lot of eve meals are taken in our hotels and that the buffet bars are boring... I may look at some restaurant guides for the areas that we visit. ( I'm not a fan of the up and down eat all you like buffet... I think it's unsociable as people hop up and down from the table... I like to chose a meal and have it brought to me!!)Are you travelling from Heathrow? If so ... I may see you there for a pre flight tipple! Looking forward to meeting you both very soon,Mandy xx

Hi Mandy. My experience of Exodus has been great, really looking forward to seeing Sri Lanka (Not sure about Adams Peak, might have to stay by the pool!) People we know who have been all say how good it is. We want to experience as much good local food as we can and don’t intend to eat buffet food at the hotel unless we have no other choice., hopefully our guide will point out some good restaraunts and street food. The local markets look amazing, I’ll also be stocking up spices For the kitchen. We’ll be doing the game drives and the Whale watching. Pre flight G&T’s at Heathrow sound very civilised!

Hi everyone!

I'm coming along too! Only booked a couple of weeks ago but am DEFINTELY looking forward to it

I went to Bhutan with Exodus about 3 years ago. Very well organised. And can highly recommend Bhutan as a place to visit. Only ever do my 'exotic' trips on my own as my other half doesn't like travelling too far (have been with Explore before, and Dragoman once). Don't know which lukcy person will be sharing with me :)

I don't mind where I eat as long as there's some veggie options

I really fancy the trek up Adam's Peak, and I would rather see elephants on day 3, or splodge by the pool :) and maybe the whale watching too

A friend (of a friend but who's counting) is Sri Lankan and has offered these tips....
"Sri Lanka is very safe for tourists. Don't buy spices or gem stones. Do buy tea.

Polonnaruwa is lots of walking and no shade. So take a hat.

Kandy has a lovely big temple, visit in the evening if possible. And make sure you cover up.

She has not done Adams Peak but knows lots of people who have.

The train will be very busy.

Best to see leopards if it's sunny as they bask on the rocks.

Kataragama is very religious.

The coastal drive is lovely.

Her son has done the whale and dolphin watching and recommends it."

See you all at Heathrow, or when we get to Colombo - I'll need to change some money when we get there as you can only take 5000 rupees into the country?

Nic xx

Hi Nicky

Good to hear from you, we are really looking forward to the trip, love traveling and experiencing new cultures and food. Our first time in Sri Lanka. We should try to meet up at the airport, once We have more details we can arrange a time and place.

Hi Nicky, Richard & Teresa

i’m definitely interested in the elephant tour, leopard safari and whale watching ... I adore seeing wildlife in their own habitats.

So looking forward to the spicy Sri Lankan curries too.

Would love to meet you all in heathrow before we fly out, who knows whicy bars are there??

Thanks for the top tips Nicky ! I didn’t realise the 5000 rupee limit ! I’ll need to change up some more money too.

Only 4 weeks to go !!!

see you all soon !

Mandy

Hi Mandy and Nicky, the holiday is approaching rapidly, looking forward to some warmth and sunshine! We’ll be at Heathrow in plenty of time Saturday. Do You know if there is a bar airside terminal 3? I could only see restaurants On line.

Richard and Teresa

Hi everyone

Can't remember the last time I came through T3 but it looks like there is a bar/restaurant - called The Curator (https://www.heathrow.com/shops-and-restaurants/restaurants-a-z/the-curator). x

Looks good to me. We’ll be there around 6:30/6:45  i’m mid 60’s short hair short grey beard, glasses with a light blue rucksack. Teresa has fair hair and is much younger😀.

See you Saturday

Hi Richard, Teresa & Nicky,

Ok great....l will endeavour to find you in The Curator at around 7pm.

looking forward to meeting you all!

I’m tall with brown/red shortish hair. I will keep a blue Exodus tag on my carry on bag.

Mandy xx

I've got shoulder length blonde hair, with lilacy ends. I'll have my daypack with me which is a pink/purple colour and should have that blue Exodus tag on it if I remember it :)

And it looks like we have a good chance of having one of the runner's up in Exodus' Leader of the Year - Neelaka or Ruwan -https://www.exodus.co.uk/leader-awards-2018?utm_campaign=UK_FY19_Tour-Le...

See you all Saturday x

Hi everyone.

I am also booked on this trip so looking forward to meeting everyone. This will be my third Exodus trip , having previously been to Vietnam an Borneo in the last couple of years. I  travel on my own now as my wife died 2 years ago and love the Exodus concept. I will put an Exodus tag on my hand luggage and hopefully catch up with you at Heathrow.
