Namibia in October

Hi,

I have booked on to the Namibia discovery holiday and want to get an idea of what would be best to take - I really have no clue, and will probably have to buy quite a bit!

I am not sure what kind of sleeping bag of jacket I need to take with me - are nights very cold in October? Can anyone give an idea of whats best to pack clotheswise?

Many thanks

Hi Katterin

October is the start of summer in Namibia, during the day it will be hot 25 – 30C. In the evenings it will be cool so you will need a fleece or a jumper to keep you warm. I would also suggest you take a waterproof coat just in case it rains! A season 2 sleeping bag should be fine as it will not be too cold. Have a wonderful trip, Namibia is an amazing country.

Thanks

Hi,

Do you know if you need to take mosquito nets for this trip, or are they supplied?

Discover Namibia is a camping trip and the tent window has mosquito netting over them. The 2 nights in the guesthouses do not have mosquito nets. The guesthouses are not located in high-risk areas for malaria. If you are prone to being bitten I would suggest you bring some bug repellent.

Have a great trip

hi

just wanted to know, during the evenings is it better to take a few fleeces and a waterproof coat for over the top, or is it better to get fleeces and an insulated jacket. Im not sure how cold its supposed to be!

Katterin

and I know this sound very stupid but does it matter if clothes are bright colours e.g. red or blue or is khaki better? dont want the animals thinking im something to eat but on the other hand khaki is not my colour!!

Its difficult to say exactly what temperatures you will experience in Namibia. October is springtime so the weather can be a little unpredictable. I would suggest you take clothes to keep you warm as you can expect 0C during the night. It really does depend how much you feel the cold! Layers are usually the best option in unpredictable weather; a waterproof jacket is also a good idea.

Regarding clothing colours, you are on safari for 3 days of your trip while in Etosha National Park. For those 3 days more muted colours are better but you do not need to wear only khaki. During the rest of the holiday just wear your regular clothes.

Thanks

hi

can someone tell me the plug adaptors that would be needed?

can we buy stuff like the adaptors or extra shirts when we get to windhoek ?

imran

Hi Katterin,

Please see this page for information on plugs etc.

Best to buy stuff you might need before travelling as it might be a bit more expensive as you know we all are normally charged the tourists rates abroad.

Hope this will help you.

Thanks

Do we need to take a water bottle and purification tablets, or can we buy bottled water.
