    An Excellent Trip

An excellent blend of varied activities, visits to cultural/historic sites and insights into local life. Everywhere was interest and beauty, a friendly welcome and tasty food. We were able to experience so much which would have been inaccessible without the expertly planned itinerary, good minibus transport and local contacts. Overall, it ran smoothly and any glitches were swiftly sorted. Accommodation was very comfortable too, with some lovely facilities, including pools. Also, this was our first tour holiday and we really enjoyed sharing the experience with a great group of people.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The Knuckles trek was beautiful, with abundant wildlife; enhanced by visiting local people in their home, where they made us welcome and provided a delicious rice and curry pack-up, (wrapped in banana leaves,) then the return walk through paddy fields. Sigirya was awesome and the plateau was surprisingly spacious, with impressive palace ruins. The cycle ride included so much, from temples and palaces to villages and a coconut "demonstration", and a lovely last stretch by the waterside, as the sun started to go down.

What did you think of your group leader?

Ruwan was an exemplary leader; organised, professional, responsive and anticipating needs; very likeable, and keen to share his deep knowledge of Sri Lanka.

Enjoyable way to see Sri lanka

I didn't enjoy this trip as much as I enjoy most exodus trips. The activities were good. A few more activities would have made it better for me. A few days seemed to have a bit of down time. Maybe it is because all the previous trips were cycling trips; but I think the reduction of activities from the original urinary had gone too far.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

I liked the fortress on the rock. It was really fun to go up it.

What did you think of your group leader?

He was good. I was a little bit disappointed at one point when asking time about a second room key so my room mate and I could do different things and he said "That's not my problem."

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Don't bother with hiking boots, sandals are sufficient for most activities and trainers are sufficient for Adams peak. Also don't descend Adams peak too fast.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

It would be really good to provide two keys when two people who don't really know each other are sharing a room. I was a bit disappointed by how the change in schedule was managed. I would expect with all companies that once I commit to a trip it will go ahead at the advertised price and there won't be an increase in cost even if there is a change in schedule. Anything else seems to rather defeat the object of paying a deposit. I have generally expected exodus to have better customer service than most holiday companies but in this instance I was disappointed.

    An amazing trip

This trip was a great way of seeing a large amount of Sri Lanka. Everything was organised so well and when there was a hiccup our leader Ruwan dealt with them so efficiently. There was a great array of activity with white water rafting, some unbelievable hiking (knuckles mountain and Adam's Peak) a fantastic bike ride with informative stops along the way, visiting a tea plantation , lots of history with Sigiriya and Polonnaruva and much more.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Watching the sunrise from Adam's peak was phenomenal but so was an impromptu few minutes of cricket with the tea pickers children

What did you think of your group leader?

Ruwan was an unbelievable ambassador for his beautiful country. He was so professional, organised, friendly and must have happily answered thousands of questions. He went above and beyond the call of duty time and time again.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

There isn't an enormous amount of downtime on this trip but if you throw yourself in you'll really enjoy it. It's a fantastic mixed activity trip to see a beautiful country.

    good

Overall - a good trip Great group of people and Ruwan was one of the best leaders I have had - and I have been on alot of adventure trips with various companies - over 25 !

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Really like the hike up to Sigiriya. Like the paintings the exercise the stories Ruwan told about the kingdom. I also really like the last day of cycling - but think it should be at least twice as long

What did you think of your group leader?

Ruwan was one of the best leaders I have ever had - and I have been on alot of adventure trips with various companies worldwide - over 25 !

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Good trip - there is alot of driving time - don't think enough exercise. The kayaking was "weak" The equipment old, the paddles ancient - The coral reefs - dead ....few fish However - the guide was fantastic, Sigiriya was awesome, the tea plantation lovely, the temple in Kandy - quite interesting

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I would suggest a revamping of the trip -change snorkeling locations -change kayaking locations -arrange for newer equipment -design longer biking option for last day (when the breezes make it pleasant to cycle) -Increase the time spent on tea plantation -suggest changing the last 2 "resorts" with a possible upgrade on the last night to one of the nicer ones on the beach (I would gladly pay more) -Suggest possible whale watching / stay in Marissa - i stayed at a lovely cinnamon plantation there -suggest a visit to Gallle - my favorite place which I traveled to on my own

    Sri Lanka Mixed Activity Holiday

Sri Lanka is a beautiful country with great food and lovely people. We had a busy ten day itinerary with Exodus, with 8 different places to stay over 9 nights. We enjoyed the cycling and walking, the walk to the top of Adam's Peak was challenging. The scenery when white water rafting was beautiful and the visit to a working Tea Plantation gave a fascinating insight to one of the biggest industries of the country.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Watching the sun rise from the top of Adam's Peak and watching about 250 elephants gather at dusk at the National Park

What did you think of your group leader?

Ruwan was an excellent guide and made the trip extra special for us all, anticipating our needs and ensuring that our holiday was memorable.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

There is about 3 hours travelling from place to place each day, but this is interspersed with breaks. We were fortunate that there was plenty of room on our bus to spread out and used this time to relax.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

A rest day in the middle of the trip may be helpful as there is a lot of travelling involved, and an early start most days to take advantage of the cooler weather first thing.

    A work in progress

Sri Lanka is a fantastic country, the people are lovely, the place is beautiful and the food is great. We had some fantastic experiences and got to stay in some lovely hotels, much higher standard than ones from previous Exodus holidays. We were the first group for this new Exodus holiday. This meant that we had a little bit of a mixed experience when it came to the activities. The snorkelling and kayaking were new activities organised by the local tour operator and it showed I am afraid. I got the impression that they had never visited the suppliers or thought through alternative options. There was also a lot of time spent on the bus which was really not clear on the trip notes. But these are things that can be fixed relatively easily and I hope for the next groups they are. It was a lovely holiday and I would not want to put anyone of it. They just need to sort out the activities and it will be a fab trip. Maybe extending the trip by a couple of days just to reduce the amount of travelling every day will also help.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Seeing a herd of over a hundred elephants, climbing Adams peak and watching the sunrise were truly magical.

What did you think of your group leader?

The group leader was fantastic. He was positive and knowledgeable about his country, he was really open and great fun. He had been dumped a little in it running this new holiday and dealt with the issues really well and with good humour.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Take a slightly bigger rucksack than suggested, just to get a change of clothes in. Rash vest is useful for snorkelling and I would have taken a pair of board shorts as well with hindsight. Be prepared to move every night for the first week, we used packing cubes in our bags which made life a lot easier.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The guide was brilliant. Any issues were with the local supplier who had clearly not scoped out some of the activities properly or really considered the amount of time travelling. I would love to go back to Sri Lanka and see some more of it, if you have been and liked some of the India tours I suspect you will love Sri Lanka.
