Hi Rachel & Clare and any other fellow travellers out there! ... Only a few more days to go! ...Can't wait!  Just doing some packing ... any thoughts on taking a sleeping bag for the train?

Hi Nic, great to hear from someone else on this trip! I’m taking a sleeping bag/bedding liner it not a sleeping bag as all bedding provided.

I’m just about packed and ready to go!

DON’T take a sleeping bag!! We’re there now and it is unbelievably hot!! A sleeping bag liner is perfect. Also pack swimwear- opportunity to swim in Halong Bay, and if you get chance, definitely do the kayaking if offered. The bike ride in Hue is also a must- absolutely brilliant. I haven’t cycled in 18 years and this was a treat. We’re currently in Saigon- it’s amazing!

thanks Helen, it’s great to hear some advice. Sounds great! Really looking forward to it.

Hi Rachel, Nic

I think I've got everything ready, just got to pack now. I wasn't going to bring anything for on the train. Helen do you think you would be alright without anything?

Looking forward to meeting you both!

the train is ‘basic’ but fun! It’s best to sleep in your clothes- you will be grubby but everyone’s in the same boat. We used sleeping bag liners but you can get away without. Covers are provided. Refreshments on the train are expensive- we took our own on and had a bit of a party with fellow guests. it helped to pass the time!

Hi Rachel, Clare, Helen

Have just seen your replies... manically rushing trying to get everything tied up at work before the trip. Thanks for the sleeping bag advice! ....might just take a liner! Really good to hear from someone who's already there Helen..sounds amazing.  Rachel and Clare, look forward to meeting you both at the weekend!

Is it worth taking trainers or stick with walking sandals??

hi Rachel- I took lightweight trainers and have worn them 3 times- cycle ride, My Son sanctuary and the tunnels Although canvas shoes (converse etc) would have been fine.  You definitely don’t need walking shoes. Some people have just worn decent walking sandals throughout. We’re at the homestay at the moment- they’ve got WiFi!! The Mekong day is brilliant- you’ve got a lot to look forward to!! (Make sure you pack plenty of mosquito repellent- we’ve used 2 Spray cans! )

Hi again Rachel!... Have been debating this one for ages and have thrown in light weight walking shoes... Paul and I on our way to Heathrow now!! Woo hooo! We are flying out in the morning a day ahead... Are you going on the Vietnam Airlines flight on Saturday? Thanks again Helen for the great info! 😊
