By Emma Garrick, Discovery Programme Manager Many of you are aware of the Exodus philosophy; small group trips offering leader expertise, an assortment of activities, camaraderie and excellent value for money. To this end our Family Adventures are no different. They are usually holidays with varying amounts of activity but with hassle-free arrangements that will suit busy families who want something a bit different to the standard two-week bucket and spade break. Our family holidays are a fantastic way to introduce your kids to new places, educate them about different cultures and open their eyes to a world of adventure. Above all else, you will all go home with shared memories to last a lifetime.

Specialist Knowledge & Expertise Our family collection features an inspiring array of destinations, from exotic shores to cultural cities, and activities that we have developed specialist skills in. Many of our staff have young families so we have quite naturally designed holidays in a way they would want to travel. We also have a dedicated team of experts in the office who can help with any questions you may want to ask. Tour leaders make a world of difference and our experienced local guides, each with an in-depth knowledge of their country, can really bring a destination to life for both the adults and the kids. Moreover, they usually have families themselves so know what makes a trip enjoyable for everyone as well as educational for the youngsters. The balance is perfect.

Handpicked Accommodation We know how important it is for you and the kids to get a good night’s sleep at the end of a busy day. This is why we handpick all accommodation on our trips, ranging from cosy family-run hotels to traditional farmhouses, rainforest eco lodges to tented safari camps. All hotels have en suite facilities, and many feature outdoor swimming pools, perfect for relaxing at the end of the day. On some of our more adventurous family holidays you might find yourselves camping under the stars for the night in Jordan or Namibia, or even staying on a houseboat in Kerala. It is these nights the kids tend to remember the most! On the majority of our trips a night of camping will be followed by a night in a hotel with facilities.

Types of Family Holidays Whilst some trips are packed with new experiences and activities, our itineraries always include free time so you and the family can hang out by the pool or on the beach and do your own thing. Generally our family trips offer a more relaxing pace than our adult only adventures with two or more nights between hotel moves. We also have a range of Activity Centres where you’ll be based at one hotel for the entire week, ideally located for access to all the activities on offer. We also offer a choice of self-guided cycling holidays. On these trips we will supply detailed route notes and have your luggage transported between each hotel. Without a leader to follow, you can decide on the pace that best suits your family – the ultimate in flexibility.   Who goes on an Exodus family holiday? Families that choose to travel with Exodus are generally adventurous in spirit, open-minded and active. Our family holidays are a fantastic way to meet new, like-minded people for both children and parents, combining exploration with social interaction and fun activities. Group sizes are no more than four or five families and the minimum age on most trips is 5 years. However, the majority of kids travelling on our holidays are aged between 7 and 14 years.  We understand that children prefer to mix with kids of their own age, especially teenagers, which is why on some trips we offer dedicated teenage departures. Single parent families needn’t worry either as our groups are made up of families of all shapes and sizes!
