FAQs on Nepal Holidays

Is it safe to travel in Nepal?

While Nepal is a relatively safe country to travel to, it does have some risks like any other country. Crime rates are quite low, but the UK government has highlighted some rare incidents. More often than not, any risks are associated with nature or sickness. We’ll provide you with trip notes on Nepal tours that advise you on what to take and how to take precautions when trekking there.

Your safety is paramount throughout our Nepal trips. As well as providing you with experienced guides who have undergone rigorous safety training, we also offer a high guide-to-traveller ratio, with a minimum of one staff member to each traveller. You’ll also have a medical professional or expert on hand who can provide you with the best medical guidance and treatment if necessary.

How many days are enough for Nepal Trips?

Our Nepal hiking trips take you on magnificent journeys across some of the country’s most spectacular mountains from Everest Base Camp and Annapurna trails to Langtang and Bhutan. Because these treks cover a lot of ground with high altitudes, we want to make sure you have enough time to acclimatise and take in the best views. Our trips to Nepal range from 11 to 22 days and we recommend nothing less than this.

Is it easy to visit Nepal?

Requirements to enter Nepal are relatively straightforward and you’ll be pleased to know there are no mandatory vaccinations needed. Nepal is home to just one international airport with direct flights available from India, UAE, and South-East Asia. Most UK flights have connections at Doha or Dubai.

How much does a Nepal trip cost?

Several factors will determine the cost of your tour of Nepal such as the duration of your stay and the activities included in your trip. You could be looking at prices anywhere from around £1,629 to £5,399.

Which month is best for trekking Nepal?

Between October and mid-May are considered the best months for Nepal adventure holidays as they provide the most comfortable temperatures for trekking in the daytime – particularly at high altitudes. You’ll be mostly treated to blue skies with occasional rain or snow. However, different months come with their own benefits for hiking. Autumn sees temperatures of 20°C and you’re more likely to experience clear views of the mountains.

Which is the best place for trekking in Nepal?

Nepal is blessed with some of the most beautiful and dramatic mountain scenery in the world so there are many incredible trekking routes to choose from. Some of the more rewarding treks with phenomenal views include Everest Basecamp, Annapurna, the Manaslu Circuit, Langtang, Gokyo Lakes, and Bhutan’s Druk Path.

How hard is trekking in Nepal?

Nepal is renowned for its awesome peaks – many of which make up the Himalayas – so you should expect moderate to challenging treks that require a high level of fitness. All our Nepal hiking tours provide you with a detailed description of the tour and are given activity gradings based on the distance, trail and weather conditions, level of support, altitude, comfort, and access to services.

What to do in Nepal?

Although a small country, Nepal is packed full of things to do during your holiday here. Some of the most popular things to do in Nepal include:

  • Trekking up to Everest Base Camp
  • Visiting Chitwan National Park
  • Looking for spiritual enlightenment in Kathmandu
  • Going to the birthplace of Buddha in Lumbini
  • Rafting along the Himalayan Rivers

We incorporate some of the best things to do into our Nepal adventure holidays, so tap on any of the tours above to see what you’ll get up to when you visit this incredible country.
What's the weather like in Nepal?

Temperatures are warm throughout most of the year as they remain between 15°C and 29°C. If you’re trekking up to Everest Base Camp, however, apart from the summer months, temperatures are often well below freezing.

Nepal has a monsoon season between June and August too, which brings rain and humid temperatures during your stay. Lightweight waterproofs are essential for those visiting in these months.

Can I travel to Nepal from the UK?

You must have the following to gain access to Nepal from the UK as per government guidance:

  • A passport with at least six months’ validity
  • Covid-19 vaccination certificate or negative PCR test from no longer than 72 hours before entry
  • A tourist visa

Getting to Nepal is relatively straightforward from the UK with just one transfer required. You can fly from many airports across the UK to places like Qatar and Dubai, where you’ll change to a flight to Kathmandu, Nepal. You may not need to organise any of this travel yourself, however, as we can provide flights as part of our unrivalled service when booking adventure holidays to Nepal.
How long does it take to get to Nepal?

It generally takes no less than 13 hours to get to Nepal from the UK. This will require you to travel on a flight from London to Doha and then from Doha to Nepal.

What is the best time to go to Nepal?

October and November is the best time of year to go to Nepal. This avoids the monsoon season, which concludes in August, and you should get clear blue skies and pleasant warm temperatures during your stay. This means that you’ll be able to get the most out of your adventure holiday to Nepal without excessive heat and rainfall getting in the way of your plans.

Is Nepal cheap for tourists?

Nepal holidays can be cheap for tourists, so long as you know where to go for your food and goods. On average, you can expect to pay as little as 100NPR per meal, which is equivalent to just 60p in the UK. To get the best value for money when visiting here, use our top tips below:

  • Eat at local restaurants rather than international chains or tourist spots
  • Use public transport instead of taxis
  • Don’t shop in touristy places and instead, head to less busy locations off the beaten track for more authentic goods
  • Learn how to barter! This may save you a fortune throughout your stay
What to wear in Nepal?

Nepal can be a very humid country, so you’ll want light clothes that cover your skin from the sun but are breathable. You can expect to do a lot of walking around here as well, so comfortable shoes are a must! If you’re climbing up to Everest Base Camp, then warm clothes are a necessity as temperatures can get as low as -17°C once you reach it.

You may experience rain when you visit Nepal too, so waterproofs are necessary. This is especially true if you’re heading here between June and August as this is the monsoon season.

Learn more about sustainable travel in Nepal

Exodus has set up and supported many projects in Nepal over the decades. From installing solar cookers and donating smokeless stoves to supporting a tree nursery in Braga (Annapurna) as well as helping supply water and hydroelectric power to several villages.

Following the 2015 Nepal earthquake, Exodus’ emergency fundraising appeal raised over a quarter of a million pounds. This enabled us to provide immediate and longer-term emergency support. Exodus worked with volunteers from Nepal Medical College to run a medical camp in the remote village of Thulopatel in 2016, and sponsored Health Partnership Nepal to run a medical camp in Charikot in 2017. We are also proud to support Freedom Kit Bags (providing sanitary wear) for women in Nepal.
