  • Day 1

    BANGKOK, THAILAND

    Arrive in Bangkok and transfer to the Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel. Gather this evening for a welcome dinner to toast to our upcoming adventure.

  • Day 2

    BANGKOK / LUANG PRABANG, LAOS

    After breakfast, board our flight to Laos, arriving in Luang Prabang just in time for your first Laotian lunch. Today you will learn more about the town we will call home for the next three nights, including the local architecture and its transformation over time. Check in to the Rosewood, a resplendent lodge with a design element inspired by the textiles of the local indigenous hill tribes, for dinner and overnight.

  • Day 3

    LUANG PRABANG

    Your day begins with a cycling tour along the mighty Mekong River, passing small villages and bucolic countryside. Reward yourself later with a possible dip in the cool waters below Hoy Khoua Waterfall while enjoying a delightful picnic lunch. Later in the day, you may experience a Baci blessing ceremony, joining local devotees in chanting Buddhist mantras, or learn about Laos’ local myths and folklore through music and a rich storytelling performance, which will be held at an old colonial house that has been converted into a small theatre.

  • Day 4

    LUANG PRABANG

    For early risers, grab your coffee and make your way before dawn to central Luang Prabang for the serene practice of alms giving. Watch hundreds of orange-robed Buddhist monks leave their pagodas and walk single file along the streets, the area devoid of any sound beyond whispers. After this peaceful experience, return to the Rosewoodfor breakfast and prepare for the day ahead. Activity options may include an interactive natural dyeing workshop, working for a day in the countryside as an organic rice farmer, or preparing delicious food and hand feeding elephants near a local village.

  • Day 5

    LUANG PRABANG / SIEM REAP, CAMBODIA

    Take a guided stroll through the morning market to learn about popular local produce, then visit the National Museum, formerly the Royal Palace. Transfer to the airport for our flight to Siem Reap, your first stop in the Kingdom of Cambodia. Check in to The Beige, your home for the next three nights. This private and luxurious tented lodge is furnished with many creature comforts, including organic bedding on your own four-poster bed and an infinity pool overlooking the jungle canopy. This afternoon, there may be an opportunity to visit the small onsite farm that provides produce and other food items for the hotel kitchen.

  • Day 6

    SIEM REAP

    Today, explore the grand Hindu temple complex of Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With small, snaking pathways and tree roots that inch-by-inch twist and turn around carved stone doorways, the many sights and different perspectives of Angkor Wat’s complexes are a photographer’s paradise. Switching gears in the afternoon, visit a Landmine Museum, to learn more about the historical realities that Cambodia faced and continues to face.

  • Day 7

    SIEM REAP

    Several exciting options are on offer today, including a Khmer cooking class and a visit to a silk farm. A local NGO has helped to revive this local practice, made possible by the yellow silk worm, providing employment opportunities for more than 100 locals. Here you may view and purchase high-quality handicrafts that take the artists many months to create. Finish the day with a sunset cruise on Tonlé Sap Lake, before retiring to The Beigefor a nightcap on your private terrace or at the outdoor fireplace overlooking the Siem Reap River.

  • Day 8

    SIEM REAP / BANGKOK, THAILAND / PHUKET / KOH YAO NOI

    After breakfast, transfer to the airport for our flight to Phuket. Here you will board an iconic “long-tail boat” for the scenic journey to the island of Koh Yao Noi. Check in to the exclusive 9 Hornbills Camp, your home for three nights, set in beautiful, lush surroundings.

    KOH YAO NOI

    After a sumptuous breakfast, activities abound for your first full day in Thailand. Kayaking, a morning yoga class, taking a Thai cooking class, and enjoying the ocean views from your terrace or simply lounging by your private pool with a cold coconut are all perfectly respectable options.

    KOH YAO NOI

    Today explore the island’s giant limestone cliffs from a whole different angle, as you approach from the sea. As evening falls, gather for a special farewell dinner at our lodge.

Essential Info

Visas

Thailand

A visa for Thailand is not required for British nationals for stays of 30 days or less. If you are unsure of the requirements please check with your nearest Thai embassy.

Laos

A visa can be obtained on arrival for most nationalities. The cost depends on nationality - it is currently US$35 for UK passport holders, and you will require 1 passport photo. For further information see the FCO website and look under 'Entry Requirements'. When you enter Laos, make sure you get an entry stamp in your passport. Not having a legitimate entry stamp could lead to arrest or a large fine.

Cambodia

Arriving By Flight:

An electronic visa (e-Visa) facility is available via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Co-operation website at the cost of $37.

A tourist visa can be obtained on arrival for British nationals at most border crossings. Two passport photos are required. The cost is US$30, although an additional express fee of US$5-6 may be incurred at the border. For further information see the FCO site and check under Cambodia / 'Entry Requirements'.

Arriving Overland:

A tourist visa can be obtained on arrival for British nationals at most border crossings. Two passport photos are required. The cost is US$30, although an additional express fee of US$5-6 may be incurred at the border. For further information see the FCO site and check under Cambodia / 'Entry Requirements'.

Important advice regarding E-Visas

Please be advised, e-Visas are not accepted at all border check points when travelling overland. This applies to the following borders/trips:

Tinh Bien, Vietnam/ Phnom Den, Takeo, Cambodia border: AOX- Thai Indochina Explorer and AOG- Thai Indochina Grand Tour

Xa Xia, Vietnam/ Prek Chak, Cambodia (Ha Tien crossing): FIJ- South East Asia Adventure

You can only purchase a tourist visa on arrival at these borders as e-Visas will not be accepted. More information can be found at:

The risk of malaria is slight but you may wish to consult your GP or travel health clinic for further advice. Dengue fever is a known risk in places visited. It is a tropical viral disease spread by daytime biting mosquitoes. There is currently no vaccine or prophylaxis available for Dengue, and therefore the best form of prevention is to avoid being bitten. We recommend you take the usual precautions to avoid mosquito bites. 

Zika fever is a mosquito‐borne viral disease and a known risk in places visited on this trip. There is currently no vaccine or prophylaxis available, we therefore strongly recommend you take the usual precautions to avoid mosquito bites.

Is this trip for you?

This tour is operated in partnership with our sister company Zegrahm Expeditions. As such the departures are not exclusive to Exodus and groups may be a mixture of Exodus, Zegrahm Expeditions, and other clients. This trip is booked through Exodus and you will receive the same award winning customer service that you would expect. Zegrahm Expeditions operate with the same core principles used by Exodus and champion the benefits of small group travel.

For most activities, a relatively moderate level of exertion is required. You must be able to walk distances of one to three miles, sometimes rough and uneven terrain, especially at many of the archaeological sites we visit. Some stairs will be uneven and without handrails. Travel to this part of the world requires sensitivity to local cultures and customs. You may be asked to remove your shoes when visiting religious sites and/or wear long sleeves and long pants or skirts. Participants should be aware that the infrastructure is poorly developed in some areas, and occasional delays and amendments to the program can occur.Temperatures will range in the 80sºF to the low-90s with high humidity and precipitation to be expected.

An overview of flight options

Exodus is committed to making joining our tours as easy as possible, wherever you live. We generally only block book seats from London, but this certainly does not mean that you need to fly from there. Depending on the route and airlines available, there will usually be various options available for those who want to fly from their local airport.

This page aims to provide a useful overview of the options available to our clients. However, the best flight arrangements should be tailored to your personal requirements, so please contact our Sales team for expert advice.

 

What kind of options do I have ?

1. We can book for you: Flights from anywhere in the world - not via London  

Depending on the route, this may be direct or via an overseas hub like Amsterdam, the Middle East or elsewhere. On short haul routes there may be direct flights with low cost airlines, charter flights or scheduled airlines. Exodus can book most, but not all, of these for you. The most appropriate airline may be different to that which we use for the group flight from London, but many people now travel on different airlines and meet up with their fellow passengers at the destination.

  • May be the most direct route
  • Often the extra fare compared to the London flight is minimal.
  • As you will be in the hands a single airline for your entire journey, the airline will be responsible for your bags and your connections.
  • You may not be able to join the group transfers. However, we can usually arrange private transfers, or book your flights to try and coincide with the group transfers. See notes on transfer arrangements below.

 

2. We can book for you: Connecting flights from your local airport to London

Exodus can book connecting flights to London so you can join the group flight there. Connecting times will be followed according to airline advice, or as requested by clients. There are two types of fares we can use for this option: a 'through-fare' or a 'published fare'.
 
a) A 'through-fare' is where you will be in the main airline's care throughout. You change planes, but your bags are checked all the way through to your final destination. 

b) A 'published fare' ticket is completely seperate from your onward ticket from London. It is usually cheaper than a through-fare but will need to be paid for and issued as soon as it is booked. This can be a problem if your tour has not yet reached minimum numbers. On 'published fares' neither airline is aware that you have connecting flights, so Exodus is responsible for timing your connection, not the airlines involved. The tickets are also usually non changeable and non refundable.

  • Depending on the fare type, Exodus or the airline is responsible for flight connections.
  • Through fare tickets can be expensive.
  • On a published fare, tickets must be issued immediately; tickets on published fares can be very difficult to change if onward flight times change; bags are not checked though to your final destination.
  • Published fares are non-refundable.

 

3. Booking some or all of the flights yourself

You can also book connecting air travel yourself, either to London, or all the way to the start point. There may be certain airlines or routes we don't have access to, so this is always an option. However, if you make your own travel arrangements you become liable for any delays, cancellations or missed connections, and Exodus is not required to offer refunds if you have trouble reaching the start of your trip.

  • You might find cheaper fares, or routes not available to Exodus.
  • You are responsible for any delays or missed connections, and the cost of the tour is not protected should you miss your flight be cancelled.

 

 Notes on transfer arrangements

Sometimes it is possible to travel on a different airline to the group flight from London. Where this is the case, we need to think about ensuring you meet up with the group with minimum extra cost and hassle.

  • On certain trips, it is easy to arrive on a different flight and still meet the group at the hotel with time in hand. We can usually arrange private transfers (at extra cost) or offer advice on taking a taxi to the start hotel.
  • On other trips (especially in Europe), the transfer meets the group flight and then travels some distance to the first night's accommodation. Where this is the case, our Sales team will try to arrange flights that arrive before (and depart after) the group. However, we do have to make it clear in your final documentation that if your flights are delayed, the transfer cannot wait for you. While Exodus or our local operators will do what we can to help you reach the start point of the tour, any additional costs must be paid by the client.
