Cape Town to Victoria Falls - 5th November

I have just booked myself onto this trip and am looking forward to hearing from any fellow travellers. I can't wait :)

Katherine

I'm also booked on this trip, and am looking forward to it!

Hi Jill,

Thank you for letting me know, are you flying from Heathrow too? I am really looking forward to seeing the dunes of Namibia, the Okavango Delta and Victoria Falls. There's so much to see, it will be incredible. I'm looking forward to meeting you and the others too!

Katherine.

Hi Jill,

Thank you for letting me know, I am really looking forward to it too! I think it will be a real experience, I am particularly excited about the seeing the sand dunes of Namibia, the Okavango Delta and Victoria Falls. I'm looking forward to meeting you and the others too. Are you flying from Heathrow?

Katherine.

Hi Katherine,

I'll be flying from Chicago via Heathrow. If I recall the flight details, I have a rather long layover in Heathrow. I don't whether I'm on the same flight as the group flight from London, although I think my flight lands in Cape Town around the same time as the group flight.

The Namibian sand dunes and the Okavango Delta are also what drew me to this trip. I can't believe it is only a few months away.

Jill

Hi Jill,

Ok great, hopefully we will be on the same flight out. I'm on the group flight which flies into Cape Town via Johannesburg. I will have my green rucksack with Exodus tag on so should be easy to spot!

I've only been camping in the UK before but am very excited about the thought of camping out under the African stars. I have been reading my Lonely Planet guide and cannot wait, not long to go now!

Katherine.

The trip is getting very close now Jill! Have you thought about what you are packing? I have bought myself a camping pillow which I have tested out and is very comfy and have found my sleeping bag. I need to find out if my holdall is big enough to fit everything in!

Katherine

I have started to think about what I'll bring. Some things I bought for previous trips I'll need to find, since I haven't used them in a while! This past week I went to the travel clinic to get some immunizations updated, so that's all set.

Hi Jill,

Yes I still need to sort out my jabs and anti-malarials too! Would you like to meet up inside the airport before our flight?

Katherine.

Hi Katherine and Jill
I am also booked on this trip and starting to get very excited. I am flying from Heathrow with two other women from Sheffield. They've been on loads of Exodus holidays, so I'm relying on them for expert / sensible advice!
Do you understand 'a soft holdall' to mean no wheels? In which case, you'll see me staggering through Heathrow. I'll try to get an Exodus tag on my backpack.
Alison

Hi Alison,

It's lovely to hear from you, I emailed Exodus about the soft holdall and I was told to use a 60 litre or larger bag. I have bought a 60 litre bag without wheels that can be used for lots of other trips. It's bright pink so you will see me coming! My rucksack is green and I will also try to have an Exodus tag showing on it.

I'm looking forward to meeting you, Jill and the other 2 ladies coming from Sheffield. I wonder if either of them have been to Africa on a camping trip before and have any god stories to tell you or ideas on what to take? I'll see you soon :)

Katherine.

Hi Katherine and Alison,

Nice to hear from you. I'm still undecided whether to bring a soft bag with or without wheels. I'll have to see which works out best once I start packing! I have both from prior trips.

Slowly I'm starting to pack. I've been on a couple trips to Africa previously, and one thing that was helpful to bring is a bag (I take a thin cloth shopping bag) to carry to the bathhouse / shower, to stow clothes and things.

I will have a 6 hour layover in Heathrow on the trip to Africa, and will be on the 6:10 pm BA 0055 flight to Johannesburg (then connecting to Cape Town) on Nov 5. If you'll be in Heathrow at that time (same flight?), it would be nice to meet up. This will be a long series of flights!

Jill

Hi Jill and Alison,

My flight is with South African Airways and leaves Heathrow at 18:05 (flight number) SA235. It connects at Johannesburg for the onward flight to Cape Town. I will be at the airport a good couple of hours before the flight so I can definitely be there to meet up!

I went to see the travel nurse last night so will be sorted soon with antimalarials and got my final joining instructions today. Just need to start packing now!

Katherine.

I was on this trip last year, can't recommend it highly enough. Absolutely loved the view from table mountain, quad biking and sky diving over the Namibian desert. The victoria falls were amazing too, although due to the dry season were not as strong but this gave us the opportunity to take plenty of pics without getting too wet. There's plenty of adrenaline activities to do there also.

Hi Mandy,

Thanks for letting us know, I'm glad you really enjoyed it! It really sounds like the adventure of a lifetime and I can't wait! I'm thinking of going skydiving too :)

Katherine.
