Ecuador Departure Tax

The Exodus trip notes re Machu Picchu & Galapagos are wrong on a number of issues. Snorkel, mask and fin sets are FREE on the "Cachalote" not $15 as stated in trip notes. This is clearly explained in the boat operator's brochure. The Departure Tax at Quito is included in your ticket price. It is NOT collected in cash. This has been the case since 2012 and can be verified on the Ecuadorian Gov website and on the IATA website. - Exodus is a member of IATA and should know this. Credit Cards are widely accepted in Cuzco, Agua Calientes, Lima, Quito and the Galapagos Islands. Most of the established shops and restaurants and even local market traders accepted cards without problems (August 2014). Some vendors are a bit fussy as to which Bank the will accept so best to have VISA and MasterCard. Amex and Diners Club are not generally accepted. Cash machines in Cuzco also widely available - all I tried had English language systems. Cash Machines in Quito are many and varied - it can be a bit hit or miss on whether they work or not - seems to be a problem with the interbank communications - but the Banco Pichincha C.A. worked with Visa debit without problems again with English language system.
