steve

thats great we can sort out meeting a little nearer the time

the prep is going well i hope but as i live in the lowlands of the south west it is a little lacking in altitude or snow/ice so having to make do with gym work and walking on the moors.

it is a little while since i did anything like this but a friend did this trip some years ago and he wasnt as fit as i (hope i) am and he said it wasnt as bad as one might beleive from the info but still not to be underestimated.

i was hoping to get to scotland but oters have pulled out so the gym it will have to be.

how are you getting on?

Hi Dave,

Sounds good! I’m doing ok prep wise I’ve been running quite a bit, could do with getting some proper walks in! ive got a few hills nearby (Gloucestershire) so gonna try and get a few miles under my belt!

How you getting on kit wise ? I think I’ve got most of it, was going to hire the climbing kit out there.

Steve

Hi steve

i think  a few walks would be good to get the legs used to rougher ground

as for kit i have everything i need from my climbing days and previous trips to the higher areas but what i take will obviously depend on weight. i would guess our allowance will be the usual 20kgs in which case i should be ok if i put some things in my carry on bag. i would hope we will know our allowance when they forward the tickets and final details over the next couple of weeks.

keep up with the training and speak soon

dave

steve

its getting close now, hope the training has gone well

how are you getting to heathrow, im getting the bus from plymouth and will be at terminal 4 about 1630

Hi Dave prep going ok thanks! Going to get a lift to Heathrow from brother in law should be there by 16.30 if not before. Haven’t flown from T4 before so don’t know it very well but Mob number is 07818 882549 give me a bell when you get there we’ll meet up!

steve

steve

Good luck with your climb gents!

I went on the Mera trip 18 months ago. It was a fantastic experieince.

garry

thanks for that, a friend of mine did the trip also some years ago and said the same that it was a cracking trip.

looking forward to it and hoping the weather is kind to us to get to the top as of late its been a little breezy !! and therefore rather cold, down to the high 30's below...

Dave

We calculated in the region of -30C on the summit with wind chill. My gloves weren't particularly windproof and I felt it. I'll be paying more attention to that in the future. The maps we were given actually make note of the potential for very high winds on Mera. It's all good fun though, isn't it? All the best!

Garry

thanks for that

i am probably going a little OTT with gloves etc as it is my hands that suffer, i can stand my body getting chilled (to a point obviously) but once my hands get cold i am baggage !!.

i do have experience of the cold from trip to the Andes some years ago and Canada where the self inflicted wind chill was horrendous, we were driving snowmobiles at speed across frozen lakes in about negative 35 and below that was cold as my ears paid testement when my hood blew off, one of my ear lobes went a little white and crispy !!

all this being said i am looking forward greatly to the trip. just havent told my misses about the plane crash at kathmandu this week..... if she knew she would be even more worried than she is...
