The Silk Road Travel Advice

Hi All

I've booked a 15-day Silk Road tour for 2016, however I have a few concerns regarding current travel advice issued by the Australian government (DFAT) at http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/zw-cgi/view/Advice/

For example, consider the following travel advice for travellers to/through the UZB-KYR borders areas:

UZBEKISTAN
Uzbekistan overall - Exercise a high degree of caution

*** Andijan and the eastern region of the Ferghana Valley; Regions bordering Tajikistan, Kyrgyz Republic and Afghanistan - Reconsider your need to travel ***

KYRGYZ REPUBLIC (KYRGYZSTAN)
Kyrgyz Republic overall - Exercise a high degree of caution

*** Kyrgyz-Uzbek and Kyrgyz-Tajik border areas and the Ferghana Valley - Reconsider your need to travel ***

The UK travel advice at https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice for the above localities is less encouraging! (eg. possibility of landmines in uncontrolled UZB-KYR border areas)

The advice is not (yet) at the stage of 'do not travel' and I don't wish to sound alarmist, just exercising due diligence.

Any relevant advice is much appreciated.

Have any travellers through these border areas experienced any safety issues? I'd be very keen to know.

Cheers, Hotspur
