Trails of Vietnam Dec 22

Hey,

Anyone reading on here taking this trip alongside me? Or has anyone done it in December?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Philip - yes, I'm booked on the same trip. Can't give you any advice though! I caught the last few episodes of the Vietnam War documentary on iPlayer last night, which is worth a look.

Getting excited now -have just dragged my rucksack out of the attic and brushed the dust off it. Was wondering what people think we need in the way of footwear - proper trail hiking boots or will trainers be enough ?

Look forward to meeting you all soon.

Kate

Hi Kate,

I'm not taking my 'serious' walking boots - just a pair of trail boots, with less ankle support but a very good vibratim sole. So, more than trainers but less than boots for climbing mountains. Don't know if that helps or not!

Hello Kate and Nancy

Not sure if this helps but I invested in a pair of these - https://www.vivobarefoot.com/uk/mens/off-road/primus-trek-mens-leather?c...

Hopefully they'll do the job!

Looking forward to meeting you both and the adventure that awaits!

Philip

Thanks for comments Philip and Nancy. I have gone for the trail shoes in the end. Hopes that will suffice. Will look out for you both at Heathrow. Will def not get around to uploading photo in between now and then !!

Well if you want to meet up in Heathrow let me know!  I can always share a whatsapp with you!  Excited now!

I'll look out for you at Heathrow. I think I still look like my photo, though my hair's a bit shorter at the moment. Coffee at 9 am on the other side of security?

Sounds good.  I think I pretty much look the same!

What are you doing in terms of warm and cooler clothes?  I've got a roll up fleece and a couple pairs of leggings for layers for the north then the southern part should be good for shorts?

I have silk (ie very lightweight) thermals which are good PJs for cold nights, plus a thin down jacket, a fleece and good socks, which I can wear trekking but also wear at night if the blankets they provide aren't up to it. I also have a silk sleeping bag liner (not the sleeping bag itself) which adds a few degrees extra warmth and deters the bugs. I've just weighed my luggage and I'm at 16 kg, so well below the 20 kg max. Looking forward to it, after three more manic days at work...

9 am for coffee the other side of security sounds good.

i ll be the one with the shiny brand new rucksack
