Walking Amalfi Coast August 12?

For whatever reason Walking the Amalfi coast isn't listed as a trip in the august forum, in order to connect with others....at any rate, anyone from the U.S. going on the Aug 12 trip?  Or Tennessee by chance?  Super excited! I have never travelled overseas and can't wait.  A much needed post-divorce treat!

I'm interested to know where everyone is coming from...

Hi Tonya... its great to see someone has posted for this Trip! I'm Charlotte, i'm 35 and travelling from the U.K. This will be my first organised walking trip abroad, and my first taste of Italy, so extremely excited. What part of the US are you from? I do a lot of walking here in the UK, but have never walked in 30 degree heat before! So currently in the process of getting all the right kit. Have you done much walking before?...

Hi Charlotte!  Great to hear from you!  I am from Tennessee, in the southeast.  hiking is very popular here due to the hills and mountains nearby.  I do not hike a lot, but (hopefully) can handle this tour.  It's very humid here and a little hotter than the Amalfi Coast, so hopefully the heat will not get me. Where are you from in the U.K.?  I have always wanted to go there!  I've never travelled abroad, so am very excited.  This is my birthday present to myself, I'm turning 47 on aug 12.  My flight will be LONG, so I will be exhausted but filled with adrenaline i'm sure!  and I am looking SO forward to having REAL Italian food. The last time I had really good Italian food was when I lived in Boston years ago-

Hey... Wow your coming some distance for this trip, how long is your flight? This particular walking trip is great for beginners, reading the reviews there will be a lot of steps tho, so will def feel it at the end of the day... but sounds like you already have an advantage over me with being use to the temperatures!

I'm from a place called Worcester, have you heard of it? It's not far from the Cotswolds, a must see if you do take the trip over!

What a special way to start your birthday, a great treat. I'm particularly looking forward to the food too, and the wine :) ...

Hi Tonya and Charlotte. I'm on your trip too, from Bromsgrove ,so only 14 miles from Charlotte. I'm coming by train, spending some time in Paris, Verona and Amalfi on the way so leaving on Monday. Looking forward to some better weather, though I see it's been 35 degrees in Naples today!

Hi Val, are you a solo traveller too? Bromsgrove... a small world! Sounds like you have an amazing journey before you reach the Amalfi, are you meeting us all for the airport transfer or at the hotel? Also looking forward to some dry warmer weather, July/August has been rubbish...

Hi Charlotte

I am a solo traveller too-first long holiday alone & part of my 60th birthday celebrations. I'll be in Amalfi already so will catch a bus up to Bomerano & hope to meet you all at the hotel .

Hi Charlotte and Val,

How coincidental you both live so close!  I am happy there are other solo travelers as well.  Val, what a great way to celebrate your 60th, maybe we can find a way to celebrate the birthdays together.

Charlotte, I am meeting the group at the Naples airport for the transfer to the hotel.  I will see you then? Or are you going it alone to the hotel?

Also, are you guys taking hiking poles?  I very much did not want to, because the airlines make you check them on and I have two separate tickets (one to Rome and then another to Naples), but it seems they are highly recommended for this trip.

Hi I've decided against poles as I don't like carrying them and haven't found them much use, but alot of people do recommend them. I think I've read sof somebody who borrowed some left behind ones from the hotel. Maybe you could contact the hotel & ask if they have some?

Two birthdays, we will have to celebrate with a nice glass something! Val we see you at the hotel, look forward to it... have a safe trip!

Tonya... i'll see you at the airport, I'll be the brunette with the large purple suitcase... i never travel light haha :)

I'm not taking poles, i don't use them here, i like to have my hands free. I have bought a water bladder for my rucksack, as it's going to so warm!

I know the hotel are providing most meals, but how much Euros are you taking?...

Hi!

just talked to a hiking friend who suggested taking them because I have not so great knees. Better to at least have the option!

I added up 700 euros, just based on the exodus site.  I read where more cash is used in Europe than the U.S....but my bank only allows so much out of the ATM at once, so I may have to walk to an ATM from the hotel At some point.

and my bag is purple too!!

Hi

We can certainly celebrate, but feel a bit of a fraud now because it's only my birthday year, I was 60 in March! Tonya, we'll be arriving on your actual birthday.

Are you going straight back Tonya -a long way to come for a week?

700 euros seems alot with most meals included but because I'm travelling beforehand I won't carry too much cash but will rely on cash points  and also pay with cards for bigger things.

oh that's good to know I didn't want to deal with the ATM again....60 is a great Birthday though so we will celebrate any way!!!

no just one week. I am in grad school and working full time and this was the only week i had off all summer (just happened to be on my birthday). I will be having a career change and not able to do anything like this for a while.  Considered the UK but liked the Exodus tours. Seemed to have most solo travelers!

I'll take enough cash to cover tips, trips out and extras, but will take cards too just in case!

Only slightly worried with all the news about British Airways strikes, and delays at Airport Immigration points, i'm hoping it doesn't effect us Tonya too much at Naples, although it haven't been listed yet. Don't fancy missing my transfer pick up, might email Exodus just in case. What time Tonya are you arriving at Naples?

At least the current heat wave there having out there should settle down before we get there...

Good morning/afternoon!

oh my!  I didn't know about strike, I heard this can  happen over there.  I am arriving at 3:25p on Alitalia from Rome.

so in my situation with this going on, you think my getting through immigration to get my bag in Rome could be delayed? Hmm, this is another reason to not check on my poles. I'll have to get the poles off the Delta baggage claim then check in to the Alitalia desk.

not sure how this works as I've never had an international layover (I'm in Rome for 4 hours).  do you think I may have to go through immigration in Rome AND Naples? I'm having dinner with friends who've travelled to Europe tons. They may know as well!  I also may take Val's suggestion and see if anyone has left poles at the hotel, that I can use.

this would make for more excitement!

Good morning/afternoon :)

Oh this is typical British behaviour, always sulking about something. You shouldn't be affected from the strikes, and as your not leaving Rome airport only transferring you won't need to go through Immigration/passport control, but check with your friends or your Customer Operations Executiv. It might just be when you reach Naples. My plane is landing at 18.30 into Naples... are you joining us on the same transfer to the hotel? If so yourll have plenty of time to get through customs! I've emailed my Customer Operations Executive Valentina, so i'll see what she comes back with.

Maybe you can borrow the poles from the hotel if your worried about them with the flights...

Ha!  Yes I am on the transfer with y'all to go to the hotel, so don't let the  bus leave without me!! 😂😂😂

we're gonna have fun, packed most of my clothes last night!

Oh good!! You get there before me, so don't leave without me... hold the bus haha 😂 😂

I've started packing my case already too, a few last bits to get! I know lots of fun, getting very excited now 😬 ...

Hi Tonya, Charlotte

All packed and ready to leave at 6 am tomorrow. Have been excited about this for months, but quite nervous now it's nearly here -with all the train connections etc. May or maynot be in touch before Saturday - internet on my phone is slow. If I'm not there I may be lost somewhere between Bromsgrove & Bomerano!

Hope you both have good journeys. See you soon.

Val

Safe travels Val... i'm sure all will be fine! Enjoy your journey to the Amalfi Coast, look forward to meeting you properly on Saturday. Only 3 days of work for me, then i can start to get excited/nervous about the trip. See you soon :)

enjoy yourself Val!  You're going to have a blast!  I finished packing today and am utterly exhausted.  Time now to clean for the house sitting family ...looking very forward to meeting you both!

Not long now... only 3 more sleeps! Have a safe trip Tonya, look forward to meeting you!

hello steve!  It's nice to meet you virtually!

That's sounds in line with others on the cash, I I will need more overall  because I need money for a lengthy cab ride when I stay overnight in Rome on the return.  But im not taking too much in the front end, can always find an ATM. I read there's one in Bomerano if needed.

Well, I'm actually leaving to go to the airport in a few hours.

So,  Charlotte, Val, and Steve...I will see you on the other side of the pond tomorrow!!!
