Is This Trip for You?

Activity Level: 3 (Moderate)
This trip gives you the chance to go sea-kayaking, canyoning, and diving in addition to the Exodus staples of mountain biking and walking. There is also the option to try paragliding. A perfect trip for those who enjoy plenty of adrenaline along with sun!
As with all our multi-activity trips, no experience of the activities is required for this holiday and those that have experience will not be bored, as there are a wide range of levels and grades to suit all. However, to enjoy this trip to the full, a fair level of fitness, skills and physique are required.
The itinerary is very active and long periods of time are spent outdoors or in water. As so many of the activities are water-based, we do not recommend that non-swimmers book this trip. There is a certain amount of rough and tumble and a few minor cuts and bruises cannot be ruled out.
Please note that the Tour Leader reserves the right to refuse participation of any client on any activities on safety grounds or if they feel that their participation will compromise the safety and enjoyment for the rest of the group.
The order of activities may be changed to suit local weather conditions.
Our local partner may ask you to sign an 'acknowledgement of risk' form before undertaking some of the more adventurous activities included as part of the tour. In signing this you will not be limiting your legal rights, as these are governed by our booking conditions and your contract remains with Exodus.

Following a review of all our trips we have categorised this trip as generally not suitable for persons of reduced mobility. However if you are a regular traveller on such trips, please contact customer services to discuss the trip and your personal condition.

Itinerary

Land Only Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Start Kas.

There are no activities planned today so you are free to arrive in Kas at any time.

    Standard Hotel

  • Day 2

Explore dramatic Saklikent Canyon with optional tubing; afternoon walk and relaxation on Patara beach.

Saklikent Canyon is one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in the Taurus Mountains. Over the millennia, the rapid flowing and extremely cold Esen River has cut a deep canyon through the ancient rocks. Using a walkway, we explore the mouth of the canyon (entrance to Saklikent Canyon is payable locally; see extra expenses) and, depending on seasonality, can progress further in by getting our feet wet! Waterproof sandals may come in handy here (or plastic shoes can be rented locally at nominal cost). There is also the opportunity to go tubing depending on the season. Tubing is a fun activity in which you sit in a circular rubber tube with a paddle and head off down river.

After a relaxing lunch near the mouth of the canyon, we take a short transfer to the start of our walk. The route offers a combination of great views and Roman ruins before arriving at Patara beach (entrance to Patara National Park is payable locally; see extra expenses) one of the most beautiful in Turkey, where we can relax and swim in the turquoise sea.

    Standard Hotel

    Meals included:
    Breakfast
  • Day 3

SCUBA diving day; beginners get a 'Try Dive' whilst certified divers have 2 guided dives.

Today we have the chance to try scuba diving. We use a highly recommended PADI registered dive school for this activity. They have top-quality European equipment and have a purpose-built dive boat. For beginners, we offer a 'Try Dive' course, which includes a one-on-one dive with an instructor or Dive Master. Qualified divers can take a couple of boat dives. Kas boasts some of the best diving sites in the whole of the Mediterranean and it is possible to see turtles and Triggerfish if you're lucky!

The group will usually be split in two, depending on the size of the group, with one half diving in the morning and the other in the afternoon. All dives, including the "Try Dives" are from the dive boat. During your free time, there are opportunities to soak up the sun. Those who do not wish to scuba dive may take the excursion and snorkel instead.

You must be in good health and will be asked to sign a medical disclaimer and show a doctor's certificate for any medical conditions. Qualified divers will be required to show proof of qualification.

    Standard Hotel

    Meals included:
    Breakfast
  • Day 4

Full day canyoning; abseil, swim, climb and jump into pools of cool water in one of the various canyons around Kas.

The mountains behind Kas are riddled with deep canyons. We normally visit the Kibris Canyon, which offers some of the most impressive natural phenomena in the Taurus Mountains; a spectacular gorge, where springs and waterfalls cascade into the rapidly flowing cold river. It is ideal for canyoning - swimming, abseiling and leaping into pools of mountain water. You will be provided with a wetsuit, harness and a helmet. You must be able to swim, and light summer walking shoes (or old trainers) are essential. The day is long and strenuous at times - please make sure you are confident of your physical fitness and physique, have a head for heights, and to see if you have the courage to jump a few metres into pools of water.

Please note: At no point is jumping obligatory; there is always the option to climb, abseil or walk down at these points.

    Standard Hotel

    Meals included:
    Breakfast,
    Lunch
  • Day 5

Free day in Kas: optional paragliding, SCUBA diving or relaxation.

Today has been left free to do as little or as much as you like. Options include more SCUBA diving, a local hike or walk, a Turkish bath or just a stroll around Kas. For the more adventurous and adrenaline-seeking there is the opportunity to take a paragliding flight. The start point is 600 metres above sea level and the flight takes us out over Kas and the surrounding islands. (See Optional Excursions section for prices)

    Standard Hotel

    Meals included:
    Breakfast
  • Day 6

Full day sea kayaking; find out how the Turquoise Coast earnt its name.

Today we spend a full day sea kayaking in the sheltered bay near Kekova Island. The day starts early in the morning; we will depart at 7:30 for a 50 min (approximately) transfer to Ucagiz Village. After preparations and technical briefing, we will paddle towards the island and the site of the famous sunken city. Although it is no Atlantis, you can clearly make out the harbour walls disappearing into the sea and see the layout of rooms and houses below the water. Kayaking is an excellent low impact way of exploring the site. Later we paddle to the village of Simena (Castle Village) to have our lunch. This spectacular spot is located on a peninsula and is inaccessible by road. The village is overlooked by a hilltop Ottoman castle with excellent views of the whole bay. To participate you must be able to swim and have the physique necessary to fit in the kayak.

    Standard Hotel

    Meals included:
    Breakfast,
    Lunch
  • Day 7

Biking day; transfer into the hills and explore the forests and coastal roads with some great descents; night out in Kas.

We will transfer approximately 1.5 hours to the start point in Sütlegen which is at 1200m. From here we will get on the bikes and head up into a cedar forest, following the trails traversing the wooded valleys and the Kibris Gorge on the left, with some fast descents and a few challenging climbs to the highest point 1450m Akörü. After a delicious home-made village house lunch we head towards the sea, either through Sinekci or Izne village, depending on the season. The day ends with long fast descents on rough tracks, and ultimately on to mountain roads, all the way back to our hotel in Kas. This activity is fully supported by our driver and minibus in addition to our guides, meaning it's possible to opt out of any part of the ride.

Ride approx 50km. Min. height to fit bikes: 1.52m

Accommodation

Hotel Phellos

Kas is a lively town with a vibrant café culture. Our base is usually the Phellos Hotel, a well appointed hotel in the centre of Kas. It has 76 rooms which are modern, clean and comfortable, with en suite facilities, air conditioning and balconies. There is also an outdoor swimming pool (May to October) and a restaurant/bar where breakfast is served.
Please note: on occasion we might use the Artemis hotel which is of a similar standard.

Where a single supplement is available, paying for a single only guarantees a room for single use. It does not always mean a twin or double room will be provided for sole occupancy.

Single supplement from £180.00

Food & Transport

Eating & Drinking

All breakfasts and 3 picnic lunches are included.
Food in Turkey is generally very good and varied, making use of fresh local ingredients. Breakfasts normally include boiled eggs, cucumber, tomatoes, cheese, honey or jam and yoghurt, olives and bread. Picnic lunches are provided on specified days.
For dinners, there are plenty of excellent lokantas (cafes) and restaurants in Kaş for you to choose from. Some specialise in locally caught fish dishes, others in various lamb dishes. There are also plenty of cafes and snack bars where 'pide' (Turkish pizza) is served. Most restaurants also offer selections of meze (mixed starters). The Turks have a sweet tooth, so expect plenty of pastries covered in honey, as well as cakes and ice creams. Your group leader will normally assist in organising group meals. Vegetarians are well catered for.

Transportation

A comfortable air-conditioned mini or midi bus is used throughout the trip.

Swimwear
Sun cream

Please add a water bottle to your packing list!

It is your responsibility to have the correct personal documents and to obtain your own visa, if one is necessary, in accordance with the regulations of the country you are to visit. The information below is primarily for UK passport holders, and other nationalities should check with their travel agent or the relevant embassies. We are not responsible for the actions of local immigration and customs officials, whether at points of entry or otherwise, and any subsequent effects.

Visa

Turkey

Holders of UK, Austrian, Irish, Portuguese, Spanish and US passports require visas. Visa's must be obtained in advance, passengers need to obtain an e-visa prior to their arrival. This can be done online at https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/ for approximately US$20. The visa is valid for a stay of up to three months (dependent on passport holder's nationality). For a longer stay a visa from a Turkish Embassy is required.

Travel health can often be something people forget about before going away, but a little preparation and knowledge can go a long way to help you stay fit and healthy while abroad.

The above information can change at short notice; as we are not qualified to answer all your questions about travel health we strongly recommend you contact your Medical Professional or a Travel Health Clinic at least 8 weeks prior to departure for up-to-date information. Please note: vaccinations that are routinely recommended to residents of the UK, North America or Australasia are not considered to form part of the travel health advice, and you should ensure these are kept up to date where necessary.

Insurance - are you adequately covered?

It is a condition of joining any of our holidays that you must be fully insured against medical and personal accident risks (to include repatriation costs and air ambulance or helicopter rescue services where appropriate). Important Information

On all guided trips

Although our leaders are well trained to deal with different capabilities, if they have any concerns about someone’s ability to safely partake in an activity, or their impact on other people’s enjoyment, we authorise them to take necessary action which, in some circumstances, may involve asking someone to miss that activity.

Although rarely enforced, by booking this trip you agree to section 14 of our Booking Conditions which clearly states that our leaders have the authority to do this. In these circumstances we will ensure anyone sitting out is safely provided for and offered alternative options where possible. Refunds will not be provided for activities missed and customers may be liable for additional costs incurred.

On all trips

In booking this trip you should be confident in your ability to participate in all activities described in these Trip Notes. If you have any doubt about your suitability you should call the Exodus office and ask to speak to one of the experts on this itinerary.

In an emergency, please contact our 24 hour out of hours service on +44 (0) 844 326 7041.

Every time that you travel abroad you should take the time to read the warnings in the essential information in the brochure.

Full joining instructions including local emergency numbers, and details of how to reach the start point, will be sent to you approximately 2 to 3 weeks prior to departure. If you do not receive these at least a week before departure, or require them earlier please contact our office or your travel agent.

The information in these Trip Notes is given in good faith. Where differences exist between the Trip Notes and our current brochure or website, the Trip Notes supersede the brochure and website. All holidays can be subject to unexpected changes; in order to enjoy them you should be prepared to be flexible where necessary. Occasionally, as stated in our brochure, it may not be possible to follow the itinerary as planned. This may be for a variety of reasons - climatic, political, physical or other. In these circumstances we will make the best possible alternative arrangements that maintain the integrity of the original itinerary.

As fuel prices, airport taxes and exchange rates fluctuate, and airlines manage their rates to match demand, it is proving harder than ever to guarantee our Flight Inclusive prices. Although we endeavour to keep our website as accurate as possible, daily fluctuations mean that our Flight Inclusive price may be out of date. For accurate prices we recommend that you contact one of our Travel Experts, or your Travel Agent.

This trip includes time by a lake, river or sea, where there may be opportunities to swim. Swimming results in more tourists deaths than any other activity. All customers should always seek local advice before deciding whether to swim, and are requested to treat the sea with extreme caution if they choose to enter the water. Details on how to keep yourself safe while swimming are shown here.
