It could be argued that America is at its most beautiful in the autumn. The colours, the climate and the quieter season make it the ideal time to plan a walk on some of its magnificent trails. We’ve picked out a couple of our favourites to get you excited.

Canyons and Navajo tour

Zion National ParkZion National Park

Plan an exhilarating walk taking in Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks to discover some of the most spectacular vistas in all of America!

The amber hues of the 2,000-foot tall sandstone cliffs of Zion National Park stretch on for miles, with the canyons and valleys being refreshed by its rushing waterfalls. In Bryce Canyon National Park, great spires of pink, white and orange sandstone, stand tall. Known as hoodoos, their imposing presence create an air of the supernatural across the park.

We offer 4 tours in this area, each with a slightly different focus. Our favourite, the Canyons and Navajo Lands tour captures the best of Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks and also encompasses the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and Las Vegas.

Visit in autumn and see the sunlight play dramatically with the hues of colour in the sandstone. It is also far less busy, and the cooler temperatures allow for a much more pleasant walk.

Western Explorer Tour

Lake TahoeLake Tahoe

Yosemite National Park; best known for its stunning waterfalls, granite rock walls and beautiful Giant Sequoia Trees has a magnificence about it that is beautifully captured in the autumnal light. You can enjoy walking here at a quieter time of year by booking on the Western Explorer late season departures.

Going it alone or with a guide?

Embarking on an adventure is exciting and maybe it is tempting to go it alone on the trails. However, you may find the benefits of a guide outweigh the advantages of travelling independently. The trails across America are extensive and with so much to see, it is tricky to know where to start.

Booking on a guided tour will ensure that you don’t miss out on any of the highlights. No need to plan the route, and instead of concentrating on navigating, you can absorb all the amazing sights around you. Your guide will share their knowledge of the local area; its wildlife, culture and history, giving you the full experience this amazing country.
