FAQs for Botswana holidays

Is Botswana good for family holidays?

Our trips are suitable for those aged 16 years and above, which means that families with slightly older children would be able to embark on a Botswana tour with us.

How expensive is a trip to Botswana?

Our Botswana tours start from around £2,600 for 14 days excluding flights. However, you may find that one of our other African tour packages is better suited to your preferences, allowing you to visit Botswana and additional countries in one trip. Take the time to browse our Botswana holidays before you settle on one.

When is the best time to visit Botswana for a holiday?

The best time to visit Botswana for a holiday is during the dry season, which runs between May and October. During this period, wildlife crowds around the water sources and the weather is more manageable. The weather is also suitable for game drives and the risk of malaria is lower.

What is the weather like in Botswana?

June, July and August are the cooler months as they mark the winter season, making them a good option when planning a Botswana trip. Temperatures range between a chillier 6°C in the morning and a warmer 25°C in the afternoon at this time of year.

Be aware that temperatures can drop below freezing at night, however, especially in the drier Kalahari areas. Typically, locations with lots of water will experience slightly lower temperatures, although it will still be significantly hotter than the UK.

All our trips align with the best weather conditions for the activities in the itinerary.

What should I wear during a Botswana holiday?

Because the temperature fluctuates, make sure you factor in chillier nights and mornings – especially if getting up early for a safari drive. With this in mind, long sleeves and trousers are sensible, as well as shorts and T-shirts. Layers are a good idea to help navigate the change in temperature.

What are the accommodation options for our Botswana holidays?

We offer a range of tours that exclusively visit or just pass through Botswana. Some involve camping, while others include hotels and lodges. Check through the trip details before deciding which Botswana holiday is for you.

Either way, we choose all our accommodation options with care, working alongside local hosts who welcome travellers into the space. You’ll have access to a great array of amenities and you may even have swimming pools, bars and restaurants.

Do you offer Botswana tours that visit other African countries?

Many of our tours combine two or more African countries into one trip. For instance, our Victoria Falls to Cape Town trip covers South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe in one unforgettable adventure.

What should be on your bucket list for a holiday in Botswana?

There are several locations you should seek out during your Botswana tour, including:

  • Chobe: This part of the country is famous for its large population of elephants, so Chobe certainly deserves a spot on your Botswana tour if it’s a goal of yours to spot these magnificent mammals.
  • Makgadikgadi Salt Pan: Covering more than 6,180 square miles and forming the bed of an ancient lake, which has since dried up, this is a spectacular setting to experience the glory of an African sunset.
  • Okavango Delta: Ideal for spotting African wildlife, gliding along the Okavango Delta in a mokoro canoe is an experience you’ll never forget. You could see giraffes, elephants, crocodiles, zebras, hippos and more here.
  • Moremi Game Reserve: This game reserve is found on the eastern side of the Okavango Delta and is home to hippos and crocodiles in the waters and everything from lions to rhinos on land.
  • Savuti Marsh: This part of the country provides more opportunities to spot wildlife during your Botswana tour. You could see lions, cheetahs or hyenas that follow the zebra migration.
Where can I find the latest travel advice for a Botswana tour?
How big are the group sizes on an Exodus Botswana tour?

If you opt for a guided group tour to Botswana, you’ll be exploring with 6-14 like-minded travellers. We keep groups small to not only make for a more personable experience but also to minimise our impact on the environment. And if heading on safari, this is especially important.

What are the activity levels like on a Botswana tour?

The activity levels on our Botswana tours cover leisurely and moderate routes. This means Botswana holidays with us are mostly family-friendly. You can view our activity level guidelines for more detail.

Do I need to be vaccinated for my Botswana holiday?

While there aren’t any required vaccinations, you may want to speak with your GP or a travel clinic well in advance, as many consider vaccinations for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, tetanus, typhoid and more.
