Introducing Sukman Tamang - Expert Leader

Sukman was born into a rural farming community in Thulopatel village in eastern Nepal. Upon completing his secondary education he visited Kathmandu, where he was presented with an opportunity that would change the course of his life forever - in 1998 Sukman started working as a Porter for Exodus Travels in the Annapurna Region. Over the next few years, he worked along different trekking routes in the various mountain regions of Nepal and quickly climbed the ranks to Kitchen Staff (on camping treks), Assistant Guide, and by the year 2001, he was Head Guide (or Sirdar). Mentored by Valerie Parkinson, Sukman proudly became an Exodus Leader in 2010.

Sukman has led over 70 trips over the course of 22 years, including 50 Everest Base Camp treks, and summiting Mera Peak at 6,476m (21,247ft).

Sukman also has a passion for sustainable travel and has played a key role in supporting Exodus in setting up many Himalayan Community Projects, ranging from opening tree nurseries, to safe drinking water projects, building schools, installing solar cookers and smokeless stoves, to running a medical camp in his village in 2016.
