Exodus Policy on Travel to Sri Lanka Following the Easter Sunday Attacks

Exodus is shocked and saddened by the horrendous attacks that took place in Sri Lanka on Easter day. Our hearts go out to all those affected by the terrible events.

We are pleased to confirm that all our customers and staff are safe and well. All customers in Sri Lanka are being contacted to ensure their continued safety until their scheduled departure.

If you are due to travel to Sri Lanka

For those due to travel to Sri Lanka please note the following policy in relation to your upcoming booking. We have no customers due to leave for Sri Lanka until 22 June.

  • Exodus monitors the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Travel Advice closely for every country we visit, and we follow their advice to the letter. Should the advice change to recommend against travel to a whole country we will not operate the holiday and offer all customers the chance to transfer to an alternative holiday, or request a full refund.
  • All customers should note the latest FCO Travel Advice for Sri Lanka. https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/sri-lanka. While the current advice is to remain vigilant and ‘to follow the advice of local security authorities, hotel security staff and your tour company’, there is no requirement to amend or cancel travel arrangements.
  • Therefore at this point in time, Exodus is not planning to cancel, change or amend upcoming departures due to travel to Sri Lanka, and we expect future holidays to be able to operate as normal.
  • If your trip is due to depart before the end of June 2019, we will be contacting you to discuss the situation and if necessary to discuss timing of any outstanding balance payments.
  • If your trip is due to depart from 1st July 2019 onwards, then our normal booking terms and conditions still apply.
  • Should the situation change we will of course be in contact with all customers to explain the actions we will be taking.

 

Exodus policy on FCO travel advice

Exodus monitors the FCO travel advice closely for every country we visit, and we follow their advice to the letter. Should the advice be to avoid non-essential travel to an area of a country we planned to visit will ensure itineraries are changed and customers are contacted.

Should the advice change to recommend against travel to a whole country we will not operate the holiday and offer all customers the chance to transfer to an alternative holiday, or request a full refund.

Where the advice may be temporary and we have tours due to operate we will communicate regularly with customers who are booked to travel about the options available.

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office also provides the following advice:

 Before you depart

  • Take out appropriate travel insurance before travelling and make sure it covers you for all the activities you want to do.
  • If you are travelling within Europe, ensure you have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) that hasn’t expired and understand what it covers -you still need full travel insurance though! For your free EHIC card visit www.nhs.uk/ehic.
  • Learn about the laws, customs and entry requirements of the country you’re visiting and understand how they differ from home, check www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice.
  • Check your passport is valid, fill out the emergency details, look after it while travelling and keep it in a safe place. Make sure you have all necessary visas.
  • Make copies of important travel documents, take a picture or make copies and store them securely using a secure data storage site.
  • Research vaccinations or any other medical requirements for your destination, and if necessary visit a travel health clinic before you travel. For medical advice visit travelhealthpro.org.uk.
  • Tell your friends or family about your travel plans and where you’re going and leave emergency contact details.
  • Take enough money with you and have access to emergency funds.
  • Ensure you take the contact details of the local British Consulate in case of emergencies www.gov.uk/government/world/embassies
  • Understand what consular staff can and can’t do to help British nationals travelling overseas, check www.gov.uk/government/publications/support-for-british-nationals-abroad-a-guide.
  • Act responsibly, and be responsible for yourself when abroad.
