Treasures of Sicily

This was a lovely introduction to Sicily because we travelled round the whole coast line. Though we stayed in quite a few locations it didn’t feel rushed. It was varied, informative with quite a bit of time for us to explore by ourselves.We got a good feel for Sicilian culture and history, ancient and recent, formed over the centuries by all the different “visitors” to its shores.

Most Inspirational Moment

One of the reasons I booked this trip, and not one that was half-board, was the opportunity to eat out in the evenings in mainly traditional and modern, small or family run restaurants. Especially since I had done a little homework beforehand to get an idea of the different influences on Sicilian cuisine in different parts of the island. I also loved the walk in Zingaro National Park which only came about by locals protesting against its possible commercial development. Beautiful, unspoilt,peaceful and wild. I would have enjoyed another walk there.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Fabio was very helpful with a good sense of humour and found answers to our questions as quickly as he could if there was anything that he couldn't answer straight away. He told us that he was more at home leading walking groups in the Sicilian interior but coped very well with our cultural trip and our queries.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you love European culture there is a lot to enjoy in Sicily. This trip covers the whole island.

Mont Blanc Highlights

This was my first trip with Exodus. They were well organised, helpful and friendly all the way along preparation. The chalet where we stayed was very cosy and run by an exceptionally helpful couple. The food was wonderful and the setting magic at the foot of Mt Blanc and her neighbouring mountains. The local village of Chaminoix was delightful with many restaurants. Shops were overly expensive. Daily walks were quite tough even for me an experienced trekker…. but each day was different with superb scenery.

Most Inspirational Moment

On our day off we took cable cars up to the top of Le Midi at about 4200. The views were breathtaking as the Alps spread near and far. Simply stunning.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Peter our leader was very approachable and knowledgeable as well as friendly. I was very disappointed and upset that he did not do more for one of our walkers who had a serious fall and fractured her tibia.She had to limp in pain and with tears for 4 hours to the pick up spot. At the very least the transport should have been at the bottom of the mountain waiting. There was no evidence of a first aid kit with basic splints. Peter didn't even know if there was a local hospital to assist..... NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take walking poles as parts are rough. Take knee braces if your knees are dicky. Good boots with ankle support are essential as is the capacity to carry 2 litres of water. Do NOT leave it til you get to Chaminoix to buy gear... much cheaper at home. A good hat and sun cream is also essential as the sun can be fierce.

We are delighted that Joan really enjoyed her first Exodus trip and to see the range of positive comments. We were of course concerned to read Joan’s account of the way in which the accident was handled. All tour leaders who lead this trip have an International Mountain Leader qualification and first aid training, so we are confident they have the skills to cope with accidents and emergencies. On this trip a client injured their ankle, but it was not clear to either the leader or the injured person if the ankle was sprained, twisted or fractured. In hindsight, we agree that Peter should have discussed the option of calling a helicopter and that he should have had a bandage or splint as part of his first aid kit. We have addressed both matters for the future. The hospital in Chamonix has recently been closed although the A&E department has remained open, however Peter chose to check this with his manager before taking the client there for treatment. Challenging but rewarding

This was only our second walking holiday after doing the Inca trail the year before so we are fsirly new to walking holidays. Found the first day fairly difficult but soon got into the swing of it and loved it!! The hardest part was walking with the pack on your back so pack light! However, being able to do the circuit point to point, experiencing a range of accommodation with such stunning views made this so worth while.

How do you pick one moment! Achievement of getting to the top of a long upward climb, views, picnic lunches on mountain tops and in valleys, wildlife, flowers, eating wild strawberries and cherries on the go, good company, paddling in glaciers, swimming in a mountain top lake to name but a few...

Brilliant, helpful, knowledable. Very organised but relaxed at the same time. Nothing too much trouble.

A Must Do Trip

For the whole 650 km, I felt sorry for visitors in Sri Lanka stuck on tour busses. Yes, there were some challenging and tough days due to certain road conditions, weather, climbs, and distances but the beautiful people and the magnificent scenery made it easy to forget any discomfort.

Most Inspirational Moment

This was my first cycling trip and I feel privileged to have seen such an amazing country and its people so up close and personal. I had many overwhelming moments as the gracious and warm Sri Lankans smiled and cheered us on. EVERY ONE gives that adorable head bob and a huge smile. They are the warmest, most sincere hosts just happy to have you in their country. I particularly loved how the children would run up to the road waving, smiling and saying hello. The scenery is breathtaking, particularly in the mountain area tea plantations.

Thoughts on Group Leader

There isn't enough room to express how absolutely fantastic Suresh and his team (Uppali, Chamara and Lal). They literally think of everything. You truly just have to show up and pedal and they will do the rest from making sure your luggage gets to and from your room, to washing your bikes, to filling your water bottles, to organizing special meals and opportunities to take in the culture. Suresh LOVES what he does and it shows. His excitement of delivering the extra special touches (the personalized photo card, the gift, the decorated cake to celebrate the toughest ride) is sweet, endearing and appreciated.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring clip shoes and pedals if you usually use them. Bring your own seat or VERY padded shorts. Make sure you like the challenge of being on a bike for extended periods of time (though the frequent breaks certainly help).

Amalfi Family Adventure

An excellent trip that was very well organised and gave us opportunity to experience many of the key places of interest in the region.

Most Inspirational Moment

Lunch on the Walk of the Gods at an old rustic farmhouse that we had to ourselves. A fabulous setting with outstanding food and drink. Very peaceful away from the hoards. The coastline is beautiful and its not hard to see why its so popular.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Eduardo was excellent, kept us organised, passed on local knowledge, made all arrangements as necessary and was good with the kids. He made the holiday much easier and more enjoyable than if we had tried to organise this all on our own.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The weather was very hot. This was expected though be sure to bring enough sunscreen and the right clothing to cater for this. Some of the places we visited are very popular so ferries/streets can be very busy. The hotel staff were excellent and catered even for the most fussy of eaters (including chip pizza!).

The Turquoise Coast

What a fantastic trip! It was my first experience of Exodus and I would definitely use the company again. The days’ activities were always well organised, enjoyable and interesting.

Most Inspirational Moment

Having the Patara beach destination at the end of our walks was spectacular. The roman ruins were really worth seeing, as was the Turkish market and Turkish lunch at a local Turkish family's house.

luxury hotel to return to after lovely island walks

a week of luxury and lovely walks on this quiet and relaxed island

walking through the beautiful spring flowers with the pounding sea in our ears. Amazing cliff walks the food in the hotel was amazing. heated pool was great. walking through the local's fields and being given freshly picked oranges to enjoy at lunch

self guided - good map and notes, helpful and very friendly locals if needed

Advice for Potential Travellers

getting the local bus is easy, get a map from the ferry/bus station in the capitol and buy a week ticket for just a few euros so that it is easy to hop on and off. There is a hotel shuttle to Victoria but the local bus is also convenient. take clothing that will still fit after a week of 3 course meals and enormous, well stocked buffet breakfast.

Wildlife and wilderness in botswana

We recently went on the above trip and had a fantastic anD interesting trip, which exceeded our expectations. The holiday was well-structured, with a two day break in Victoria falls right in the middle of the two weeks. Bear in mind, though, that you are visiting a country the size of France and doing a considerable amount of traveling, staying in six different locations, to appreciate the diversity of the landscape and the animal,plant and bird life.Wynand, our South African guide, had a staggering amount of knowledge and enthusiasm and added greatly to the holiday. We would nominate him as the best tour guide we have had on these type of holidays and whatever you are paying him, it is not enough ! all the staff were excellent and developed a rapport with the guests. we had twelve in our group, with a varied age mix, which worked very well and it did not feel like a coach tour. we had a strong tip to try the 16 day Costa Rica trip, so are looking at that at present.

Hearing the family group in the delta sing us a traditional welcome song around. The camp fire it was unforgettable

He was amazing completely unflappable always chirpy and was very amusing and he was very happy to spend time with us as individuals

Take a warmer sleeping bag than I did- I did not take the advice seriously and was very grateful of the blanket provided by exodus

South African Walking Safari

A wonderful trip in a spectacular country, seeing a lots of wildlife and some stunning landscapes

Most Inspirational Moment

1. Arriving off the chain ladders above the Amphitheatre, with awesome views from high on the Drakensberg. 2. Getting so close to the peaceful hippo family in the early morning in the St Lucia estuary. 3. Having a close encounter with a white rhino and her calf on the game drive in the Karongwe game reserve.

Andrew was simply amazing. Really well organised, looked after everyone throughout, and was a terrific cook!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go on all the game drives you can, you'll see different things each time. Don't miss out on the chain ladders, they're fine (the alternative scramble wasn't an option).

Cycling in Istria

This week-long self-guided cycling trip was excellent. Cycling through olive groves, along rocky shores and sampling tasty local food. Typical distances were 30K a day suggested, but there is great scope for extending (or shortening) routes to suit yourself. Directions were generally good, and accommodation was excellent along the way in very friendly hotels in Fazana (especially!) Rovinj and Porec.
