Tanzania Safari Adventure

As my first ever safari, this trip was amazing. The wildlife viewing was way beyond what I could have imagined as was the warmth of welcome from all the people I encountered.

Most Inspirational Moment

Hard to pick one out. Tarangire was so beautiful and the sheer number of elephants was astonishing, and the chance to see up close little lion cubs hidden up a tree.. The big cats of the Serengeti too. Every day there was a new wildlife highlight. Meeting the women of the Datoga tribe and joining in grinding corn while they sang was a moment I will remember for a very long time.

Paul is a very experienced guide and his knowledge of wildlife and its behaviour is excellent - so often his understanding of "what the animal will do next" kept us ahead of other vans in the scramble to see the best action.

Colours of Rajasthan

I’ll be recommending anybody and everybody to go on this trip. I learnt so much and want to continue reading more now on my return. I will be returning to India. I love the Exodus ethos.

It was my first time to India, and it won’t be my last. I fell in love with it.

Exodus, as always made the trip the Waitrose equilvent of supermarkets, a first class trip. Embracing the culture and different experiences everyday was truly magical. Made all the better by our marvellous guide Mayank.

Taj Mahal - it blew me away. Elephant sanctuary. The beautiful palaces.

Mayank was professional and approachable for the whole two weeks. His love and passion for India was shared with us in a positive way. He really went the extra mile and really seemed to get everyone individually. A very kind and thoughtful person.

Discover Laos in Comfort

What a great trip! Laos has the most extraordinary people. They are so kind and gentle. We loved riding the train. The motels were great, the outdoor activities were so much fun and the historical sites and temples were very interesting. Our guides Ning and Sac were outstanding and organized. I highly recommend this trip.

I love the way Exodus respects and rewards the local people and businesses.

Nam Kat Yorla Pa Resort and the time we spent there was so peaceful and beautiful.

Neing was very well organized and kept everyone informed and involved. She was kind and friendly and was ready to help no matter the problem. I really enjoyed getting to know her. Sac did such a great job introducing us to his culture. He was fun and knowledgeable and made sure we were safe and taken care of. We really enjoyed him a lot.

Cross-Country Skiing in Skåbu

Snow shoeing in Skabu was a great experience due to the owners and staff of the hotel. Henrick was not only one of the owners, but he was our skiing guide. He quickly assessed each of our levels and adapted to make the experience a memoriable one for each of us. You knew from the start that safety was one of his primary concerns and he was able to help each of us get the most out of the experience. He and his wife and staff were great. From the evening experience that allowed us to understand more about the local culture and history (this took place each evening in the lounge each night before dinner)

They also provide an evening of star gazing that was enhanced by the presentation first by a young man with a masters in theoretical physics. I learned a great deal about the stars and then he met us at the viewing site with a telescope set up. It was exceptional. One afternoon we took advantage of the sauna which l had growing up with neighbors. However, the icing on the cake was the exceptional food and the employees. I love getting to taste local cuisine and this was one of the best examples I have seen. They raise their own pigs and sheep and use the meat. One day we had lunch in a hut on the ski trail that was their own pork and lamb sausage heated over an open fire. The evening meals included moose soup, fresh caught trout, pork, lamb and great home made deserts and more. Each meal was paired with an exceptional wine as they have a sommelier. She was exceptional. Finally the Friday night meas was a five course dinner with a wine pairing. Did I forget to say that the resturant was just named one of Norways 10 best. I want to thank the staff for making it a great week. I highly recommend this trip and would consider doing it again.

Henrick was always concerned about out safety. He was able to quickly assess the individuals skill level and adapt to make sure everyone had a rewarding experience. His local knowledge was exceptional not only about skiing but the local environment, history and sustainability.

Disappointing trip with poorly maintained bikes

We added this trip as an extension to the Discover Sri Lanka trip which was fabulous and we highly recommend. Unfortunately
this trip for us fell far short of the standard we have come to expect from Exodus. I write this as a qualified ride leader with over 40 years of experience in bike maintenance.

Our bikes had multiple problems including excessive play in the rear wheel, unreliable gears, poorly adjusted headsets and badly set up brakes all which affected bike handling and created unnecessary risk. Having discussed this with Exodus they have assured us that changes will be made to the servicing of the bikes and that the ride leader will test ride every bike before handing it to a client.

Generally it is easy cycling on flat roads with a few minor hills on the last day. A lot of the roads are fairly busy, the Indian drivers like to toot so you know they are there, so it is also very noisy. The backwater roads are lovely but views of the sea can be limited because of the coastal defences. There is also a lot of litter and some unwelcome smells due to the lack of sanitation. The locals are generally very welcoming and friendly, plenty of smiles particularly from the children.

Our highlight was the Kerala house boats, they were fabulous especially watching the sunrise in the morning as we sailed along the backwaters.

Our guide, who we understand was not the usual leader, was a poor communicator, disorganised and a thoroughly disappointing ride leader. On previous Exodus trips the leader has set up a WhatsApp group and used it to keep us informed of departure times and other key information. Our leader asked us to set the group up and rarely used it, most communication was by Chinese whispers. He was also a poor time keeper, we left late in the mornings, rode through the hottest part of the day and didn’t get to lunch until 3:00pm. On rides his pace was erratic, he would stop pedalling when on the phone. He also led us down the wrong side of the road, cut corners and failed to give clear signals of his intentions. Again we raised these issues with Exodus, they have assured us that these issues will be addressed with additional training so that Exodus usual standards are maintained on future trips.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Lycra cycle shorts are acceptable apart from visiting the temples/churches. Use insect repellent on the houseboats overnight as the ensuite had slats and no mesh to keep the mosquitos out.

Fabulous trip with an excellent guide, highly recommended

The trip is a great introduction to Sri Lanka well organised with a packed varied and interesting itinerary. There was a good mix of activities (walking, rafting, cycling) varied transport (buses, boats, bikes, tuk tuk and a train as well as culture (temples, ancient cities, tea & cinnamon farms, markets, botanical gardens and beaches. There was still enough free time to explore on your own or use the pools/swim in the sea.
The hotels were better than we expected, in good locations, most with lovely pools. The exception was Araliya Red in Nuwara Eliya which was a huge cold soulless barn of a place with the worst food and service of the holiday.

Most Inspirational Moment

So many highlights, Lion’s rock in Sigiriya was just sensational, the elephants on the first safari wandering next to the jeeps, cycling along canals to a local house for an amazing lunch cooked by the family who were so welcoming.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our guide Mr Bujan was outstanding. He was very informative and passionate, incredibly well organised and went out of his way to ensure we had the best trip possible despite the disruption caused by the cyclone at the end of November. He changed the order of events to allow us to travel on the only section of the rail trip that was running again and made sure we arrived early enough to avoid the rows. Every day he briefed us on what was coming up and made sure we always knew where to be and when and how long a stop/activity would last. He then followed up with a Whatsapp reminder.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Expect some early starts and some long days Take binoculars to see the wildlife. Optional trips must be paid in cash so worth working out how much you might need for this as it does add up. If you want an active extension to the trip instead of the Maldives consider the 8 night Cycle the Coast of Kerela. The flight from Columbo to Kochi takes only 1hour 10 mins

An Unforgettable Kruger Adventure – The Perfect Introduction to Safari Vacations

From incredible wildlife sightings to the majestic scenery of the Panorama route, Essential Kruger delivered magic at every turn. The tour leader was outstanding, the pacing was spot on, and I felt completely immersed in all the experiences from start to finish. An unforgettable safari tour with a few dashes of sightseeing. I’d recommend in a heartbeat.

So many to choose from! Seeing Blyde River Canyon & the Three Rondavels, Bourke's Luck Potholes and God's Window with a clear sky. Of course, the game drives in the Kruger seeing all the wildlife and amazing birdlife and the surprisingly amazing and authentically African style lunch inside the park

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sammy was next level amazing! He was so well-informed, attentive, caring and took so much of his personal time to be with us. His knowledge of plants and birdlife is extremely broad and he took such good care of our group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The drives can be long so be prepared for that. Bring sun protection and drink plenty of water in the hotter months because it can get hot during the game drives. Walking does occur on this trip during the Panorama route exploration. It isn't technical but you need to be able to walk if you want to experience these sites properly. The boat cruise on Blyde River is shared with others not in the Exodus group but this is quite fun.

Discover Istanbul

Enjoyed a busy few days in Istanbul, seeing the highlights with a great guide. The trip was exactly what I had been looking for.

Basilica cistern and Topkapi Palace, and walking around the streets where locals were eating out and trying the food.

Discover Guatemala

We got a wonderful cultural experience of Guatemala. Lots of wonderful experiences with our very personable tour guide Eli kept us informed on the trip all the way. Fabulous cultural experience in Guatemala with Eli our lovely reliably rep who shared all his knowledge with us.

Most Inspirational Moment

Antigua was a gem. Visits to Mayan sites and early morning sunrise. Festival of the planting of the seeds. The colourful markets, climbing the volcano , San Juan La Laguna was wonderful. The thermal baths.

Discover Guatemala

Really enjoyed the hike up Pacaya volcano… but would probably say Tikal was the biggest highlight… a fabulous site.

Eli was an excellent guide… enthusiastic, knowledgeable and engaging… was able to come up with lots of additional off piste activities that gave additional insights into local life.
