Awesome Experience

Cuba has the most beautiful scenic mountains, forests, beaches, lowlands, and wildlife. The roads are pretty awful in Cuba, but our driver did a great job of navigating the potholes. Cuba’s towns and cities are a beautiful example of people who have the least being happy to share what little they have. The locals were all friendly, generous, and welcoming, not to mention happy to put up with me murdering the Spanish language in an attempt to communicate. Trinidad is party central! Every night of the week, bars and clubs have excellent live bands, and so many amazing dancers. Havana is packed full of culture, and although a lot of the city is run down and falling down, you can see where restoration work on the colonial style building has been completed to a very high standard, and where it is ongoing. The Rum museum (Museo Del Ron Havana Club) is well worth a trip, the basic tour lasts about 1/2 hour and includes a generous sample of the 7 year old Havana Club rum for 350 pesos, which at the time was less than £4! Generally prices in Cuba are very low, and thankfully now you only have to deal with Cuban pesos and Euros, whereas in the past there was also CUC too!

Most Inspirational Moment

We know that generally people in Cuba don't have a lot, and Rayselis showed us a few of the projects being run not only to preserve Cuban heritage, but also to give the people jobs and allow them to earn a little extra. Whilst in the tourist areas, beggars we fairly common, my general view of Cubans is that they want to work for a better life.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Rayselis was amazing. Her local knowledge was awesome, and she seems to know everyone! She was constantly working behind the scenes to make sure that our experience was the best that it could be, and she looked after us all so well. I think we would have been lost and broke without her.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you're prone to getting bitten, or you react badly to insect bites, bug spray is essential even during the day. If you want to help poor people, do it via your tour guide. The moment you give to one beggar you'll be swarmed by all of them. In bars and restaurants in Havana, if you want to choose a "special" cocktail from the board - ask the price first. We found that the cocktails on the menu were 700 pesos (around £3.50) and the ones on the board were 2200 pesos (roughly £11). Still good value compared to London prices, but not 3 times better than the ones on the menu. There are some amazing rums to try, but before you buy that £180, £400, £3500 bottle of rum to take home, find a bar and try them first. Maybe it's my unrefined palate, but out of the various expensive bottles I preferred the £50 masters selection to the more expensive ones.

Petra

India's Golden Triangle

Our guide in India was fabulous. Good option of tours and price.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Agra Fort and the Taj Mahal at dawn.

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was wonderful. He managed to make being superbly well-organised look effortless and was completely unruffled by any situation. The whole group got on well with him (and each other). It was a memorable and very happy experience.

Tropical India

I loved the holiday, the people, the food, the adventures however, I think whoever put the description of the holiday together needs to go on the tour and rename it. There is a lot more cycling on main roads and highways than I expected. We didn’t get to experience the tea plantations. We simply sped past them. The Tropical bit didn’t occur until the final few days.

Most Inspirational Moment

Definitely seeing a tiger stalking a baby elephant. We watched it for about an hour. The Granny and mummy elephants were so close to us and it was amazing to watch them protect their baby. Getting a Tuk Tuk to drive us round Kochin. The Jewish quarter is just lovely. The houseboat experience was fun. Loved sitting back playing Name that Tune with our new cycling buddies and chilling out.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Safi was great. Always there with a big smile and he was brilliant at keeping us together which is not an easy task in India! And of course, Dipin with his very positive encouragement at the back and Sandeep who didn’t say a lot but always turned up with the van in time for us to top up our water bottles.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be aware, the traffic and noise is crazy. If there is a gap in the traffic, it will soon be filled with scooters! You will acclimatise but it is so different from the western world!

Well organised trip, great itinerary. As a single female traveller, I felt safe and any concerns were addressed immediately. Amazon travel rep. Would definitely recommend to friends. I have already got another trip booked for November and thinking of booking another early next year.

We had a wonderful time, packing in an enormous amount in such a short visit. It was clear the organisers had anticipated every step so it went very smoothly.

A fantastic holiday - Thank you!

I loved this holiday and would thoroughly recommend it. The lovely Level 2 walks were accurately described in the itinerary (apart from the paper mill being currently shut). I loved the way we did more than walk – we swam in the sea, ate ice-cream and then had a magical boat trip at dusk back to Amalfi after doing the Path of the Gods. The guides (both Stefano) at Vesuvius and Pompeii were excellent. We seemed to pack a lot in – more than we would have managed if we’d organised it ourselves. The three-star hotel was comfortable and the staff very friendly and welcoming. The food was good and sometimes excellent. It was fun to go into the kitchen on two evenings to “help” with the tiramisu and pizza. We didn’t need 2 first courses / primos a night, though, and often opted to drop one of the four courses or share one of each. I’ve done several Exodus trips now and Vania has been the best guide I’ve had so far. Generous with her time. The weather was mixed. Thank you for jigging the itinerary so that we did the Path of the Gods in beautiful weather. The cloud was down for Vesuvius so we didn’t see as much as we might have done. But the towns were not too busy and we were the only group in the hotel. It was never too hot! A lovely holiday – thank you!
