Very interesting and informative trip

We normally go on walking holidays with Exodus, but due to a current mobility problem we chose this culture experience instead. It proved to be very interesting and informative and gave a valuable experience of everyday life in the region. We were particularly surprised to learn of how hard and restricted life was when the area was under soviet control. It made us realise how lucky we are to live a free life in the UK.

Our leader Andrius Mazrimas was excellent. Probably the best we have ever had and we have been on over 20 Exodus trips! He was very knowledgeable and helpful. He had a great sense of humour and and made the trip very enjoyable. He clearly loved his job and imparted his enthusiasm on everyone. We all finished the trip considering him a good friend and it would be great to see him again.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Some hotels lacked washbasin plugs, take a rubber sink plug with you.

Fantastic in Every Way - You Must Do This Ride!

Why isn’t the southwest coast of Portugal talked about worldwide as a gorgeous destination? The scenery was spectacular day after day. This trip, just completed yesterday (Sept 13, 2026) was easily one of the best cycling trips we’ve ever taken. Our guide João Colaço and support man-of-many-skills Vitor delivered a perfect, memorable experience with every minute detail organized and managed with forethought and professionalism. The riding had its challenges, and I would encourage anyone waffling between e-bike or regular bike to opt for the ebike, which made the climbs very comfortable. Our e-bikes were the best e-bikes we have ever ridden, with ample power and comfort, while taking a beating on some of the gravel roads. The food, organized by João and Vitor, was as amazing as you might imagine, from fresh fish to octopus to lamb, shellfish, and fruits and pastries. Accommodations were lovely and uncrowded, all locally owned and very charming. João’s daily briefings included expectations for the next day as well as updates on weather and wind, and cultural and historical notes. He has a vast knowledge of Portuguese history and culture and entertained us with his orientations to all the local spots. He and Vitor are truly exceptional guides, and I can’t commend them highly enough.

There were many, nearly all gazing down at pristine beaches from viewpoints high above.

Outstanding in every way! Organized, detail-oriented, quite skilled at leading cyclists in a group across some challenging terrain. Very knowledgeable about Portuguese history, culture and geography. Excellent command of English. Very charming and funny.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The terrain has its challenges from some steep climbs to gravel, sandy paths. If you’d rather not dread the climbs, opt for the ebike. It made all the difference for us, turning the cycling into endless pleasure rather than anxiety over the next ascent.

Great trip

Great small group, bonded quickly and the guide was fantastic. Hotels comfortable and clean and in great locations.

Jacob the guide was very informative both before each days hike and during the hikes providing lots of local information.

Jacob was also more than happy to provide additional guidance for any local hikes outside of the planned daily ones.

A fabulous week full of idiom

A brilliantly organised and executed tour – this was our first time doing a group cycling trip and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Our leader, Davide, had done over 70 trips on this route which meant that almost nothing was left to chance. The hotels were excellent, food stops were delicious and well timed and the support offered by Sebi was reliable and always delivered with a smile.
The cycling itself was fun and just the right length and difficulty for a mixed group. Gorgeous scenery and amazing smells of fig, pine, lemons and oranges as we cycled through the countryside. And there were plenty of swim stops when we were by the sea. Highly recommend this tour especially if it is led by Davide.

Most Inspirational Moment

The care and support shown to one of our group who unfortunately had a fall from her bike and had to go to hospital. The group rallied round and Davide and Sebi were brilliant.

Exceptional and caring and knew all the interesting places to visit often with a personal touch as he knew all the people that mattered.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring lots of your local idioms and the cultural exchange will be all the richer for it.

An experience definitely worth taking

We were on the Exodus trip that left on May 24, 2025. The hiking, hotel, meals, hospitality and guide were all excellent. We could not ask for more.
We would highly recommend this trip and the other 4 Exodus trips we have taken to our friends.
The hotel room was spotless and the staff so very accommodating. The breakfast had everything you could ask for. The packed lunches had 3 options for sandwiches plus all the chocolate, fruit and nuts you wanted. The 4 course dinners were amazing, with 3 options prepared by the in house chef.

Arriving at the hotel and seeing the view of the snow capped mountains from the patio and hearing the nearby cow bells.

Tomas was a quiet and personable local guide with a broad range of knowledge.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Please make sure you know "your limitations". Match your "current" ability with the rating of the hike. Be reaIistic and then it makes the experience more enjoyable for everyone.

What a week, What a guide, What a group!

This trip is the perfect balance of a short break that feels like you have been away for a month, in a good way. You are completely at one with nature and in the wild, the days are demanding and you are often leaving at 0730 each day and not getting back until around 1630/1700. You have a long time on your feet with big ascents and descents, all whilst surrounded by incredible mountains. I went the first week of September and we had a mixture of weather, which really gave us the full hiking experience, instead of being upset that it was raining with zero visibility, you were happy to be out in the elemensta and conquering cols. You will have switchbacks for breakfast and sore legs for dinner, however, if you are up for a challenge and enjoy the outdoors, good food and comradery then this trip is absolutely for you! 1 peiece of advise, pack light, and then if you think you have packed light enough, pack even lighter than that!

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the top of the Col de Tricot, you have a cup of coffee at a refuge at the botom and just get to look at the challenge that lays ahead, that was such a fun day with a great sense of achievemnt. I loved the walks that were quieter, but you can't not add the walk up to Lac Blanc here in the highlights, the views are breathtaking and it was made even better by the fact that we hadn't yet seen Mont Blanc in all her glory until the clouds cleared when we reached Lac Blanc, it was quite something.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Adrian was fantastic, he has a very relaxed and calming aura. It's clear he is a very talented hiker/mountaineer and he balanced the groups ability fantastically, ensuring that no one felt left out, left behind, or held back. He really made a good week great. He picked an outstanding restaraunt as our final meal too which was the cherry on top.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You get barely any time in Chamonix, as to complete the full tour in a week your days are long. If you did want to enjoy Chamonix or even visit the QC Terme spa in Chamonix (a great way to end a tough week), then I would reccomend booking a post night and staying another day.

Cycling Porto to Lisbon

We had a wonderful group of 16 riders led by our excellent guide Dinis, assisted by Philippe and our driver Tomas. All three worked very well together and provided excellent service and support to we 16 riders.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure when offered you sign up for the lunch package where you contribute towards a common Kitty and the staff purchase and prepare some of the meals and pay for other meals in restaurants that they've chosen for you. It's well worth it!

Transportation

Great scenery, well selected hikes, great guides, nice hotel. Overall a great vacation!
But……..

Mark and Jenny did great work, adjusted for weather and capabilities of hikers. Some of the guests needed more assistance and they did not hesitate to accommodate them. Well done!

Advice for Potential Travellers

This trip uses public transportation for getting to/from our hikes. The busses are crowded, late, and don’t seem to follow any specific schedule. We were left standing on some occasions, gave up and walked on others, and had to push and shove to get on and off every time. This aspect of the vacation is unacceptable and I unfortunately can’t recommend the trip unless it is changed to private transportation.

Great trip

This was our first cycling trip with Exodus and it was excellent. The trip was well-organized and everything from the guiding (with head guide Dinis accompanied with Tomas and Philippe), cycling, food and accommodation was great. We rented e-bikes which I would recommend for inexperienced cyclists given some of the hills involved. Apart from a couple of minor planning glitches which Dinis quickly resolved, the tour was advertised. We usually ate together as a group of 16 and bonded quickly. Weather was perfect for early September apart from a bit of drizzle and some wind on a day or two.

Experiencing Portugal directly especially more rural, coastal areas.

Dinis was a great group leader who communicated well and kept on top of things. We were well briefed daily on what to expect and Dinis suggestions for restaurants were all good.

Advice for Potential Travellers

WhatsApp was used to harmonize communications so it is worth familiarizing yourself with it.

For the adventurer who loves a challenging trek

This trip had a great mix of trekking and learning about Peruvian culture and Inca history. The views were incredible and there are so many Inca sites along the way. The food was an absolute standout!

Most Inspirational Moment

Finally reaching the Sun Gate and seeing Machu Picchu for the first time was a moment I will never forget. It's been a dream of mine for many years and I can finally say I've been there. It is also a big reward after a tough 7 day trek. A special mention for the incredible meals prepared by the chefs on the trek. Wilbur and Antonio never served the same dish twice and always made sure they took everyone's dietary requirements into consideration.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Edwind was the best leader. He was extremely patient, calm (even when you werent), funny and professional. He paid close attention to the health and safety of the entire group and the Oxygen checks became the most anticipated event of the day. I thought that he managed the expectations of the group really well and allowed people to trek at their own pace. His knowledge about the Inca society is incredible, he is truly a treasure!

Advice for Potential Travellers

The weather can change at any time. I went during dry season and it rained pretty much everyday. Pack extra waterproof clothing and make sure you waterproof your kit bag and backpack. Walking poles are essential, and you may want earplugs as campsites can be noisy with barking dogs - or a 24hr Peruvian party.
