Walking in Sardinia

Another superb Exodus trip. A great way to explore a beautiful country. Sardinia is an idyllic place with amazing beaches & stunning mountain scenery.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were numerous points during the week which proved inspirational. One that stands out however was the walk into the Gorropu Gorge, the deepest natural canyon in Italy - quite breathtaking.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alexis was a superb leader. A proud Frenchman(as I discovered whilst watching his beloved France at the World Cup on TV with him at the hotel one evening!) and a true gentleman. He was full of fascinating facts/stories about the areas we visited and nothing was too much trouble for him. He had a great sense of humour and contributed greatly to my enjoyment of the trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for high temperatures during the walks, especially in mid-June when we were there. Take plenty of water on all walks. There is also a small amount of rock scrambling involved during some of the walks to be aware of. However, my best advice would be that if you are considering this holiday then go for it - you will not be disappointed!

A brilliant first walking holiday

Enjoyed every day of our first walking holiday, met a lovely group of people, good age range, good mix of couple and single travellers. Scenery was spectacular, hotel due torri was first class – friendly and welcoming as were the locals. The walks were well planned by Paul, our guide which just left us to enjoy the scenery (even the steps). Would recommend the small additional fee for the guide in Pompei and Vesuvius. Exodus have this holiday well planned including amazing drivers of coaches and taxis. This was our first holiday with Exodus and would definitely go with them again.

The last walk up Tre Calli had the most amazing views, unspoilt countryside and the feeling of being on top of the world.

Paul our leader was brilliant, friendly, organised and seemed to enjoy sharing the secrets of the Amalfi coast with us.

Do even more practice walks up and down steps than you think necessary.

The Most Awesome Trip

This trip for me was unbelievable and Fascinating and incredibly informative all at the same time

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the top of Dead Woman's Pass on the second day of the trip, the view was incredible you could see for miles. The achievement gives a personal sense of accomplishment unlike I have had before

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader was really knowledgeable on a huge variety of topics from the Inca civilisation to all the flora and fauna along our route He was also sympathetic to our requirements being mostly an older group as sometimes it was more strenuous for some than others

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go at your pace and drink lots if water 1.5 litres am and the same amount pm Hydration packs are better than bottles as they are readily available to drink from constantly

Breath takingly beautiful

The Dolomites, are stunning, at every step was a new spectacular view. The walking was challenging and rewarding. Hotel Adler was fabulous the hospitality absolutely splendid.

Its difficult to pick a highlight as everyday was fabulous in it's own way.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alex is a true professional, lovely person and our thoughts are with him through a very difficult time. Christian from the Adler was wonderful and kept the feeling of group exodus holiday together. The guides that stood in on Alex's behalf all brought something different to the 'table' and the group remained in high spirits.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Always look around you and not just at the steps you are taking. Take only photo's and leave only footprints

Essential Peru - Inti Raymi

Fantastic trip, which was extremely well orgainised. A lot of travelling involved with some long journeys but in very comfortable coach with a toilet. The journeys were broken by interesting stops along the way, Our guide Guiliano was outstanding and looked after us extremely well.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing Machu Picchu with my own eyes & hiking up to the Sun Gate. Overnight Homestay with such a welcoming family on Amantani Island on Lake Titicaca was an honour & privilege. Seeing the Condors soar at Colchester Canyon.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Guiliano was absolutely amazing, he really couldn’t do enough for us and was always enquiringly about our health every day to ensure that people knew how to cope with the altitude etc. He had the patience of a saint - even when dealing with perhaps the more challenging individuals in the group !! In the evenings he gave us the option of having a group meal for those that wished to do that and took us to a wide variety of local restaurants. This was totally unexpected and as a solo traveller I really appreciated that extra effort. He showed such passion and knowledge for his Country & was very good at explaining the history and ways of the Peruvian culture to us. His command of English was very impressive.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take heed of the trip notes - it can get chilly so be prepared for that. Many of the hotels we stayed in did have electric heaters in the room but not all of them work efficiently even if there is one. Restaurants can also be cold - which I didn’t think about. Our internal flightback to Lima had a baggage allowance of 23kg not 20kg but worth double checking. Money exchange was very easy to find for both US dollars, UK Sterling and Euros, in most major towns and cities. Many shops took US Dollars in payment.

Walking in sunshine with great views, great hospitality and great food

A week of blistering heat (even hotter than in England) in superb landscapes with great hospitality from the management team who had only taken over Cortijo Rosario towards the end of last year. Varied itinerary with different walks on each day. Food prepared by Roger was delicious and the vegetarian options were envied by the rest of the meat-eating group.

Nothing really stands out specifically as all days were great and varied so it would be unfair to choose anything in particular.

Michael was great - his enthusiasm and knowledge was excellent and even if Belgium beat England in the group stage of the World Cup this was taken in the spirit of the occasion as the owners of the cortijo were from Belgium, as was the chef who lived up to his promise of sangria if we ate dinner 30 minutes earlier so that the kick off was not missed.

Sun and Snow

The trip was my first walking holiday with Exodus and far exceeded my expectations. The hotel was really good apart from the tiny shower. The hotel staff were really efficient and relaxed and communicative at the same time.

The walking was really good with a really interesting variety of walks of varying character.

Campitello is a really nice village with extremely friendly people. The local bar we used was really good with nice apertivo!

Most Inspirational Moment

The walk to the summit of Piz Boe. Extremely hot day walking through some snow and up interesting wires. I'd walked up Piz Boe in the opposite direction before so it was fun to do it the other way.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Martin the level 5 leader was extremely confident and relaxed in his manner. He very quickly got the measure of the group members to allow some people a measure of independence.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you take gloves and adequate clothing at this time of the year as it gets cold at the summits.

Beyond my expectations

Guiliano was absolutely amazing. I couldn’t have asked for anything more from the trip! There is some long drives as stated but the views and the stops you make are unreal!

Machu Picchu is a pinch yourself can't beleive I'm here moment. My highlight of the trip!

Guiliano was fantastic. He couldn't do enough to help us all out. He was knowledgeable of his home country and had so many facts I've bought home with me. I honestly can't say enough about him. I hope any other trip I do I have a guide half what he was!

Mixed results

Some good points and some not so good. We saw and learnt a lot about Morocco. Good company on the trip. Excellent driver. Good hotel in Marrakesh. Lots to see and do. We would have preferred less time traveling, up to 8 hours on 2 occasions, and would pick a trip with fewer stops and less travel another time. A lot of hotels claimed to have AC, but the only hotel with working AC was the last one in Marrakesh. It was very hot with no through air in hotels/gieghts so sleep was difficult. The trip to the Sahara was really a waste of time; just a tourist trap. The hotel, had no working AC, temperatures were 40C and to sleep, we had to lie outside. The camel ride, OK, but we had to wait all day with nothing to do, except use the pool, for a night in a Bedowin Camp, which was no such thing. A number of these camps have been erected in the dunes and are purely for tourists. The staff live in the village our hotel was in, the woman prepared the food and men drove it out on ATVs and then served it. Not authentic at all!
We, and others, had spent considerable time purchasing goods and carrying them from North America, for the Berber village you support, but we had considerable problems trying to find who to leave them with. Our guide was no help with this, despite many questions on the subject, and finally, we visited a local family and passed the items over to them. Since Exodus really push the giving, which we support, arrangements to pass over the items should have been made. By the way, you advertise the walk to the village as an hour and half walk. Better to describe it as a 5Km walk. The hotel in the village, by the way, was very good with attentive staff.
Just a thought, but there is a good train service between Marrakesh and Casablanca which may be a more interesting method of travel instead of air.
Another suggestion. Let people know they can’t use up there Morrocan currency in the departure lounge for Duty Freed goods. It can only be spent on locally produced goods. We understand why, but better customers are for warned.

Most Inspirational Moment

The mosque in Casablanca. The 4 hour hike, 4,000ft height gain, visiting a genuine Berber, nomadic, family on route, was excellent. So was the guide provided by the hotel. Really great person. If we had know of the visit to the family before actually reaching their home tents, we would have brought some items and cash. Please instruct the Exodus guide to inform the hikers.

Thoughts on Group Leader

We were disappointed, especially over the school goods we carried out. See above. We saw quiet a few photographic opportunities, but were unable to stop. He was knowledgeable and always polite, but information was last minute, even details of what we were doing, so little time to prepare.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You see a lot on this trip and it is good value for money. However, if you would prefer to spend less time on a bus, pick a trip with fewer stops. For us, the two days of travel, there and back, for the Sahara, camel ride and so called Bedowin camp, were a waste of time.

Whilst we are pleased that they enjoyed aspects of their holiday, we sincerely regret that their experience in Morocco has left them with some disappointments. We were particularly concerned regarding the lack of information regarding where and when donations can be distributed in Morocco. At Exodus our Responsible Travel policy is very important to us and we have many projects which support local communities across the world. We are very sorry that the Exodus leader did not provide guidance as they are given training in regards to responsible travel and they are aware that we work with a local association in Tijhza who collect these donations and distribute them. Following this feedback we are working with our partners in Morocco to make sure that leaders understand our expectations and the processes better.

Cycling and sightseeing in the Baltics

A very well organised and interesting trip, combining exercise and sightseeing in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Our guide Vaida was calm, helpful, knowledgable, kind and fun – an ideal cycling guide.

The trip gave 4 nights in Estonia, 2 in Latvia and 4 in Lithuania, with a combination of cycling, learning about the cities we visited, and socialising with the group. The cycling was straightforward, mostly flat riding in forests or by the sea, sometimes with a headwind. It was mostly cool which is good for cycling. The group were of mixed ability, so some went ahead whilst others went more slowly to enjoy the views.

It was good to visit this area of Europe to get to know more about it. Breakfasts were substantial, and I have developed a love of herring – though this is not necessary!

Most Inspirational Moment

I really enjoyed cycling to Jurmala from Riga, and riding along the sand. We swam in the sea which was rather chilly! Cycling in Lahemma Park by the sea was also lovely.

Vaida was really great; enthusiastic and so helpful. She was keen to help as much as she could and couldn’t be faulted.

Advice for Potential Travellers

There are no kettles in Baltic hotels, so I would take a travel kettle if you want to make a cup of tea... I never realised how much I love tea until I couldn’t make a cuppa at the end of a ride. You can buy teabags when you get there. Take some warm base layers as well as summer clothes as it is cooler than the UK - and a wind proof gilet is useful as well as a waterproof jacket. Not being a regular cyclist I found doing some longer cycle rides before going away helpful in preparing for cycling every day.
