A Great Experience

This was an excellent trip. Very well organised. Madagascar is a huge island and there are some long travel days to get across the country. Very varied environments and we saw lots of different wildlife.

Most Inspirational Moment

Being close to , seeing and hearing the Indri Lemurs was a very special experience. My favourite day was the walk in Isalo National Park.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Rija was one of the best guides I have ever had. Her local knowledge was amazing. She had done this trip many times and she knew how to make it run smoothly, sometimes in difficult circumstances. Despite her experience she was still really enthusiastic about everything and made the trip really enjoyable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take walking poles if you usually walk with them. It was torrential rain in the Rainforest and I could have done with my full set of waterproof clothing and back pack cover. I should have taken a warmer jumper as well as my fleece. The hotel at Isalo offered washing very cheaply and we got all our wet and muddy Rainforest clothing washed and dried there. Change all your money at the airport on arrival and when you go back through later. The ATMs [we had two opportunities] may only allow you to change around £50. Those who did try and change money at the bank had to queue around 2 hours to be served!! No where took cards. Be prepared for the unexpected...no electricity, no running water, hold ups, bumpy roads, changes of time, unexpected encounters with local people etc

Mountains and Villages of Corsica TEB

I was very much looking forward to this holiday and it did not disappoint. You see mountains in every direction and get to ride on a train to get to and from some of the walks. The hotel is charming…..as is Paul the owner. Everyone smiles and you feel very welcome. It is basic…..but this is part of the charm. The showers may be small but there is plenty of hot water all the time. Beds are comfy and everywhere is wonderfully clean. Mostly the food tastes delicious and is well presented and served by Paul himself.

Most Inspirational Moment

The magic of the mountains and the satisfaction of walking up them. Fresh water from the mountain springs and cold plunges into them on hot days !!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Martin is a little cutie.....ha ha!!!! Kind, gentle and caring. Hope to meet him again on future trips.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Right.........I guess I need to mention breakfast. It lacked one thing. An egg !!!! Juice, croissant, bread and jam (lovely as it was) was not really enough to set you up for the day. An egg (even cooked the night before by the chef and eaten cold in the morning) would have been enough to have made a difference. The local shop rarely opens so possibly people need to bring snacks of some kind to supplement the baguette and fruit supplied for picnic lunch. If not......it turns out to be an excellent way to lose a bit of weight !!!!!

Excellent week, lovely islands

This was an excellent trip, that we thouroughly enjoyed. The islands of Hvar, Korcula and Midjet are lovely. The cycling is fairly straightforward, with the first two being the most challenging.

We had an excellent group leader (Alan) who was well experienced and very organised. He knew when to lead the group, and when to stay at the back. First class.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Some accommodation is not great. Dubrovnik is very busy, don't hang around there if you want to avoid the crowds. Go out to Split a few days early - do a bike tour or kayak tour, both excellent.uhebc

Good mixture of walking and culture

This is a holiday for those who want a mixture of some quite tough walks in rather remote places and also wish to explore the culture of this little known (to most British people) European country.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to the top of the mountain on the walk between Theth and Valone. I really didn't think I'd make it, but ti was worth it for the view. The wonderful Ethnographic museum in Berat - and the town itself. The veiw from the Hotel Panaroma on the last night - it lived up to its name.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Dorian always had interesting facts to tell us about the areas we were visiting and was very good at adapting plans to the needs of the group. We wouldn't have seen so many amazing places without his knowledge.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The walking can be quite tough, if like me, you are used to walking in less hilly/mountainous areas. Be prepared to pack a lot into each day.

Cycling, cows and churches

A great mixture of cycling and culture, with plenty of cows and castles along the way. Visiting rural Transylvania is like going back in time to the Middle Ages – farmers still use scythes, people get around in horses and carts, and cows wander the streets. There is a fascinating history to uncover and the locals are very friendly.

Most Inspirational Moment

I really enjoyed meeting traditional craftspeople and learning about how close their skills came to being lost forever in the Communist era. We met quite a few entertaining characters along the way. The countryside is beautiful and the medieval town of Sighisoara is picturesque.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Raluca was a great guide - cheerful, patient, experienced and passionate about Romania. She offered lots of personal insights to bring the history of the country to life, and there was a great balance between cycling and culture. She really went out of her way to make sure that we were all enjoying ourselves. Liviu was a great helper too, keeping us fed and watered on the rides.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for mixed standards of accommodation - some excellent and some a little basic, but all with character. Hot water can be a little hit and miss. There are no hair dryers or kettles, so take your own if those things are important to you. It helps to be not too fussy about food as options can be limited if you have specific dietary requirements. We went in May and the weather was very changeable - some hot and sunny days and some cold and rainy days, so if you are going early or late in the season make sure you take clothes for all weather. But above all, go now before it changes too much!

Plentiful prosecco....

This is a fantastic trip with a varied itinerary, including some decent walks, steep both uphill and downhill at times, a guided tour of Treviso, with some free time, and a free day that can be spent in Venice, easily reachable at only an hour on the train. Add to the daily activity, unlimited wine on 4 nights at dinner, and a couple of excellent tastings…all in the beautiful surrounds of northern Italy…..highly recommend!

Most Inspirational Moment

Probably for me, visiting Venice, one of the most amazing and unique cities in the world, but the prosecco vending machine half way up a hill, was a welcome delight after a long walk in the heat.... Of course...not to forget.....a fabulous group of fellow travellers, who all got on amazingly well

Serena....a wonderful Italian woman, fairly new to the job, and local to the area, was a delight. She was very approachable, and felt like a friend to us all.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Some of the walks are steeper in places than I'd expected from the trip notes/reviews. Nothing too difficult, but some fitness and good footwear essential. We were fortunate as didn't have to walk in the rain, but on places it could be quite muddy and slippy, so good footwear essential.

Cycling in Sardinia

My first exodus holiday I had a great time. Weather hot and beautiful coastal scenery. Opportunity to swim in the clear sea every day. I was very impressed with how well organised the trip was and how well the guides took care of us. A couple of the rides were quite tough for me as not a regular cyclist but enjoyed the challenge and certainly built up an appetite for the delicious food on offer!

Most Inspirational Moment

The beaches and the costal views. Nice being in a group setting, moving from hotel to hotel and group leader to advise on lunches/evening meals which we all ate together which was nice.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michele and Giovanni were both great. Very friendly and professional. Giovanni provided well needed water and snack stops which was great as weather was very hot.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Try and get in a bit of (long!) hill training for day 2! Take plenty of sunscreen!

Discover the Baltics

The trip was very good. We had 11 in our group and were a mix of American, British, Australian and an Italian. Hotels were pleasant and transport was comfortable with pleasant bus drivers although some of the trips were long. There were enough stops along the way to keep things interesting. The major areas of the three countries were covered with a variety of cities, culture, nature and sea although the main focus was cultural even in the national parks. I would have preferred some walks on the many trails and boardwalks we were told about. The guided tours and time on our own was evenly divided. In Riga, there was plenty of time to see the Old Town, visit museums, relax in parks and cafes, and shop. In Tallinn and Vilnius, not so much. Overall, the trip was true to the itinerary.

Most Inspirational Moment

Not sure if I would call these inspirational moments but the museums in Riga (Occupation, Jews in Latvia, and Barricades) were all extremely interesting as well as The Cold War and KGB Museums in Lithuania. The Hill of Crosses was pretty amazing and the Curonian Spit was a nice break from the cities.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader, Jolita, was personable and knowledgeable; she did her very best to take care of each persons's needs and interests. She went out of her way (and above the itinerary) to take us out each evening when we arrived at a new city to give us an orientation and suggest places for dinner. We went to dinner (mostly) as a group 5 times. We didn't need a local guide in Lithuania as Jolita as a Lithuanian was the expert. I really enjoyed her upbeat personality and genuine excitement to teach us about the Baltic's turbulent history.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are interested in visiting museums you will have a hard time except for in Riga as there is not enough time during the day and you arrive in the cities at the time when museums are closed or are closing. I would suggest an extra day in Tallinn and an extra day in Vilnius.

Bulgaria, The Realm of the Brown Bear

We had an excellent trip, learning about the evolution, distribution, habitat, food and habits of bears. We studied and measured ” bear ” trees and scats and were able to deduce the age and sex from these! The walks were well varied through stunning scenery.

Seeing a bear from the hide for the first time. There was also stunning mountain scenery

Julian was very knowledgeable, well organised and kind and patient.He has built up an excellent relationship with the local villagers . I was very impressed with his Bulgarian !

Advice for Potential Travellers

There was (for me) some quite strenuous hiking and I was very glad I had taken good boots and walking poles.

Sicilian Volcanoes

The tour guide Nicoletta was superb. Worked hard to ensure the rooms were allocated at the end of each day. Well organised meals out and extra excursions available for those who wanted to do something else. The tickets were organised for the bus and hydrofoil so transport was seamless. The only hitch was with the occasional member of the group not being available for boarding when required. Hotel rooms were great along with the breakfast. The only breakfast that was limited was the hotel on Stromboli. Rooms should have had air conditioning as I found it very hot and hard to sleep after coming from the cooler English temperatures. There was a prominence of preserved meat and bread where I was looking forward to fish and vegetables which I was surprised to find were hard to acquire in the islands. The food was over all very good.

The trip up Stromboli was the most inspiring part of the trip and worth the effort.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The tour guide Nicoletta was superb. 10 out of 10. She got on with all the group accommodating dietary and health requirements for one person. Worked hard to ensure the rooms were allocated at the end of each day. Well organised meals out, packed lunches, snacks and extra excursions available for those who wanted to do something else. All flowed smoothly indicating the considerable effort made on the trip. The tickets were well organised for the bus and hydrofoil so transport was seamless. Well done Nicoletta.
