Great tour with very interesting history

This tour covered a lot of ground in a short time. We learned so much of the history of this area and its people. It was good to have mix of activities in the cities and country areas. We visited old castles and palaces, national parks, museums, cities and small towns. There was a very good balance of organized activities and time to explore on our own.

Most Inspirational Moment

There are so many churches still in existence and used for artistic activities such as music and art, as well as for worship. Many have been extensively renovated in a variety of styles. Despite difficult times, people retained their cultural background and creativity and are proud of their countries. Everywhere there are memorials to celebrate writers, poets, musicians.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Migle was outstanding. She was totally involved with the countries we visited and her knowledge of the history and current events was conveyed in a way which kept our interest throughout the trip. Her personality and charm, and her professionalism shone through.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for lots of walking over cobbled roads and pavements. You may have to haul your bags up a couple of flights of stairs in some hotels. Read the trip notes before you travel and as you go so that you spend your free time most efficiently and don't cover ground which you will be covering in the guided walks.

Fun travels in Albania

My first Exodus trip and already planning more. A well organised trip to a beautiful, unspoilt country. Yes, the cycling was tough at times with some long climbs but the roads were not busy, the Albanian drivers very considerate of cyclists and my travelling companions very supportive.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing those mountains, villages and coastlines plus of course being able to complete all rides.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Dhimi was great, professional, caring and fun.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for some tough climbs, enjoy the downhills but treat with caution, embrace the country and the lovely people

Walking the great wall

Before going on the trip the highlight was for me of course the wall and the scenic views but this all changed and the whole experience was the people I was travelling with the teamwork and friendships I made.. has left a positive impact on me and at the moment all I can think about is the next trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

The sense of achievement personally and of the group when reaching a high point and then getting photos of the views stretched out below.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Great.. an original genuine character made the trip an enjoyable experience for me

Advice for Potential Travellers

Read trip notes I did and used blister plasters at early stage and managed to keep feet from getting any worse than just a bit sore.

Inca Trail

The whole experience from beginning to the end was amazing. The experience was also made all the better having a guide like Mike Gamarra. His knowledge and passion for the Inca Trail and its history was unquestionable. He also brought us all closer as a group, and also made us all, including the chaskis, feel like a family.
Would highly recommend this trip to anyone.

Most Inspirational Moment

Hiking through the rain to finally reach the sun gate for the sun to come out just as we had our first sight of Machu Pichu

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mike Gamarra was a perfect guide. Made us all feel like a family. His knowledge and passion rubbed off on us all.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go for it, you won't regret it.

Lost City of Choquequirao Trek

An incredible trek, away from the crowds and through the cloud forests and passes of the Andes.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved being at Choquequirao - but it's only when you get to Machu Picchu do you realise what a privilege it is to see Choquequirao with so few people there. When we visited our group shared the entire site with only a dozen other people - incredible. The comparison with the business of Machu Picchu is startling! For the trek itself, the San Juan pass was my favourite spot - a perfect 360 viewpoint over the Vilcabamba mountains. We went in May and were blessed with glorious sunshine and the valley filled with wild lupins.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Rolando and Jonny were top notch, very funny and lovely to be around. Special mention must go to our amazing team of cooks and horsemen who were incredible and worked so, so hard to give us an amazing experience. We couldn't have done it without them!

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is a fantastic trek which gives you an unusual insight to Peru, away from the popular spots. It's so special to have somewhere like Choquequirao to yourself. Go now before everyone else does!

Scicilian Volcanoes

Most memorable but strenuous.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were many memorable moments but finally reaching the summit of Stromboli as the sun was setting and we were stood on a high rim looking down on fiery eruptions from four craters was the most rewarding experience. The descent in total darkness meant we all had to wear head torches and the long lines of lights snaking down the volcano is another moment fixed in the memory.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alessio was helpful and cheery and we learnt much about Sicilian ways. By the end we were all joining in with "amuninni" - lets go! In his own time he took us on a personal guided tour of his home town Catania and also escorted us to the airport. We would also like to give special mention to Alberto our specialist mountain guide for the Stromboli ascent. He took exceptional care of ALL members of the group making sure that EVERYONE reached the summit and descended safely!

Advice for Potential Travellers

The trip is rated a "moderate 3". We found the climbs strenuous/challenging and would suggest a level 4 rating. Head torches rather than hand held torches are essential for Stromboli, also walking poles are highly recommended on all the walks/climbs.

Cycle Romania

Stunning scenery with the historical backdrop of political upheavals and resilient people made a fascinating cocktail

Most Inspirational Moment

The man who sews the waistcoats and is a human world heritage site was a first - but he can't get a word in edgewise with his wife in full flow! Staying in guesthouses in small villages was lovely and took me out of the normal comfort zone of a standard hotel. I wouldn't have wanted to sleep with my in- laws in a drawer under me though! The Saxon churches in Transylvania being still lovingly cared for even though no Saxons remain in the community

Thoughts on Group Leader

Raluka was superb throughout. Fun, enthusiastic, efficient and picked up our group humour so quickly she held her own. Her passion, pride and hope for her country was inspirational for us jaded types. She was ably assisted by Livio who provided additional insights

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just enjoy every minute like I did

Walking in Sierra Nevada and Granada

An unspoilt area of Spain with interesting walks and scenery. It was good to have walks starting from the hotel and / or a short transfer to a local village. At the end of the week to have a day and overnight stay in Granada worked well especially as the hotel was very central to the old part of the city.
The hotel in Berchules was lovely. The staff very welcoming and accommodating. The food was excellent as was the service.

Most Inspirational Moment

We went in May so the mountain sides were covered in spring flowers including many orchids. We also saw eagles, golden orioles and hoopoes. I found the geology of the area very interesting as there were some incredible rock formations and folding.

Thoughts on Group Leader

George was an excellent leader with a detailed knowledge of the history and culture of the area. The walks were well paced with opportunities to stop to take photographs and look at the spectacular views.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Although most days there were opportunities to replenish water bottles at local fountains, do take 2 x 1 litre water bottles as the temperature can rise quickly.

Petra & Wadi Rum by bike

A fast paced trip but combining the cycling with sightseeing was fantastic.

Most Inspirational Moment

Of course Petra, but I have to say that I was surprised with how much I loved the Dead Sea. Having two full days in Petra and Little Petra was perfect. They were long days of walking in the hot sun so expect to walk around 20k but it is so worth it. I couldn't imagine only seeing Petra in 1 day, that's not enough time for such a spectacular place.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Issa was amazing. He made me wish that I had taken some history courses prior to the trip as his knowledge is so immense and he made every stop so interesting. He is an archeologist, but also somewhat of a historian, so of course the two go hand in hand. He was very concerned for our safety on the bikes and made us all feel very well taken care of.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Definitely take water shoes for the Dead Sea, the sand is quite hot. Expect to use more money than the trip notes mention as the prices are higher there than the trip notes indicate. It is very hilly for cycling so make sure you have some fitness going into this trip to make it more enjoyable for yourself.

Croatia and the Dalmatian Coast

Wonderful country that should be on everybody’s list.

Most Inspirational Moment

The vistas.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sasha was what a tour leader should be, proud of her country and wanting to share it with the group. One couldn't ask for better.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This trip was listed as leisurely but I feel it was a moderate especially for a couch potato.
