Coach with a window tour......

After seeing so many great reviews for this trip I decided to book it to travel over Christmas 2016. Basically it is a view of Cuba from a coach! Long, drives – quick stops 2-3 times during the day for a 45mins-1hr max – really no time to appreciate anywhere are you are always on the go! A few pointless places where we stopped were also thrown in. Accomodation was average – first night hotel was below poor quality however the homestays (all be them basic) were clean and adequate, and the families could not do enough to please you. Food is basic – you get the same breakfast, lunch and dinner choices daily. In summary Cuba the island is green and lush with white sandy beaches, fab old cars everywhere and Havana is a great city to mooch around, top that up with the friendly welcoming people then its a great place to visit, however this weeks tour really packs too much in – but saying that I certainly could not do the two week tour either as I am sure it will be much of the same just over a longer time period!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jorge was a friendly leader with good local knowledge however we never had enough time in any area/town to really apprecitate what he was telling us. Ray was a great driver coping well with the long 7-9 hours driving he was doing on most days.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do visit Cuba as its a good place to see, however take toilet roll with you where ever you go, take snacks as there is very little in the way of chocolate, crisps, sweets etc, if you wanted take spices or sauces to pep-up your food, definately book an add-on beach hotel via Exodus at the end of the tour so you can chillout for a few days at the end as you will be exhausted from not doing much! Oh and buy Rum out there as it is really cheap.

A rewarding experience.

This was not the trip I had planned to take over Christmas, but it turned out to be truly rewarding, overall, although a little more of a heads-up regarding the gorilla trek would not go amiss. The whole trip may be rated as “2” – leisurely – and, for the most part you are travelling in a truck and this describes it well, but the mountain trek is definitely a “4”, minimum (and I’ve been on a “3” and it was more demanding than that!). After 3-and-a-half hours up and down the mountain, mostly in pouring rain and hail, exhaustion was setting in when we reached our gorilla family – but the encounter really made the effort worthwhile.
Looking back, however, most of my photos were shot long before we arrived in Rwanda – the game drives through the Masai Mara were very successful! In all of the drive, the only thing we missed was a leopard, but we did get to see rarities like the serval and jackel, so that was very satisfying.
Some of the so-called “comfortable” camps were a bit of a let down, with poor washrooms and very elderly tents, badly in need of replacement, but the Exodus camps were great, as was our superb team lead by Peter Kiptoo, driver Boniface, cook Esther and assistant Amos. They really helped to make the experience all the more memorable by looking after us all so well.
This is a trip to be recommended!

Excellent. Knowledgeable and prepared to respond to (our only occaisional) demands!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Ignore all the ramblings in the trip notes concerning registering online for visas and just follow the spoken advice and purchase an East African visa for all three countries on arrival. Not really sure it is necessary to pack a mosquito net, since the tents are mosquito-proof and most of the other stops feature mosquito nets.

Atlas Descent

A fantastic way of getting to know Morocco from a saddle. The holiday was far better than anticipated and has reignited my sense of adventure.

Most Inspirational Moment

Retracing routes that in some cases have been used for years. Feeling the support of everyone both guides, drivers and fellow holiday goers. Feeling part of a great team. Feeling included regardless of ability or age.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Radu was wonderful and I loved the fact that he was sooooooo patient and answered most of my very curious questions with enthusiasm. John was such a support both on and off the bike. Both guides filled the holiday with fun and laughs.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you have a solid pair of cycling shorts that can withstand all sorts of cycling both on and off road. Some people used buffs to cover their faces especially on the off road downhill sections as it could get quite dusty. Be prepared to get a couple of bruises preferably on the bike.

The Inca Trail and Amazon Extension

Everything about the trip was fantastic. Really well organized and put together. It was an amazing experience that I will always remember.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the campsite on Day 3, after a really challenging couple of days of trekking. Not only was this probably the best campsite in the world, but we also had the best location inside the campsite, owing to our group leader and team making the selection and preparing. And our group leader coaxed us up the hill to the best view I have ever seen at exactly the right time after we arrived. Completely breathtaking!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Bobby (Ubaldo Quispe) was the best tour leader I have ever met (and I have traveled on many many different types of tours all over the world). He was extremely knowledgable, really inspired confidence, was able to manage the group really well, even though we had a range of different abilities and the trek was challenging. He is also one of the best team leaders I have ever met, was truly generous and kind hearted and I would love to go on another trip led by him in the future. Monica, our co-leader was also amazing, able to give just the right type of encouragement and to lead from the front or behind perfectly. She also gave me a magical medicinal remedy (passionfruit and hot water) for a complaint I had that was super effective and I thought that was awesome!

Advice for Potential Travellers

It is a challenging trek, so it's worth putting in effort before hand - in particular building up your leg muscles because there is a lot of down and uphill, with big steps. And be prepared to go slowly if you need to - the air is thin so I found it tough going over the mountain passes.

Vietnam Adventure - awesome

My wife and I booked this trip over Christmas and New Year to relax into experiencing highlights of Vietnam. We had heard a lot about how friendly the people were in the country and how amazing an experience it was to travel and tried to maintain no pre-conceptions in order to get the most from this trip. There is a good balance between different types of activities all along the route. We had experience of previous trips with Exodus and this lived up to the high standards previously experienced. It was our first holiday to South East Asia, and would love to visit again.

Most Inspirational Moment

It's hard to pin down just one thing that is inspirational about this trip. The journey out to Ha Long bay and trip into the Mekong Delta surrounded us with the natural beauty of two very different parts of the country. This contrast against the train journey and the chaos of the big cities left us being inspired at each turn. The museums that one visits as a part of the trip are interesting, very informative and provide much material for reflection.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader (Kien Le) was very well organised, enthusiastic and energetic. He was keen to impart knowledge of Vietnam throughout the trip and readily answered any questions posed to him. This helped us understand Vietnam as a country at a deeper level. Due to some unexpected heavy rains at one point in the trip he quickly organised alternative activiites at the request of the group. He was always willing to organise activities during free periods to help us maximise our time in this wonderful country.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go there with an open mind and enjoy yourself. Plenty of opportunity for photography, cooking and eating...

UNDISCOVERED ANTI ATLAS

This was the second trip my husband and I have done with Exodus and we will go on more. We had a ball.

Most Inspirational Moment

The trip in itself was an inspiration. We loved the remoteness of the region, the beauty of the geography and the way the trek was organised.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I felt we were extremely lucky to have Hassan, a Moroccan as our group leader. I think he showed us an insider's view of Morocco that we may have got from a non-Moroccan guide. He was kind and thoughtful and I had complete trust in him. He was very good at setting the pace with the group. He left me with a very good impression of Moroccan men and their respect for women and all people in general.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Morocco can be bitterly cold in winter. A good quality sleeping bag is an absolute must.

Cycling Namibia

We were a small but ‘elite’ group – ‘holy moly’ – we were the beautiful family who enjoyed every aspect of this trip
The challenge of the cycling conditions, in excessive heat, but in the most inspirational landscape, did not defeat us

Finnish Wilderness Week

I loved this holiday. Finland in the snow was gorgeous and I enjoyed the mix of activities.

Most Inspirational Moment

We had a 2 hour (?) Huskie sledging trip as part of planned activities and we enjoyed it so much we booked the optional day sledging trip. It was absolutely magical and I can honestly say it was one of the best holiday days I have ever had. Beautiful scenery, lovely dogs, well organised and a very tasty lunch.

Bjorn (Teddy) was lovely. He was very chilled but organised and very knowledgeable.

We would like to thank Brian for his review and we were pleased to hear that he enjoyed the trip overall. We are aware that a family group was also staying at Basecamp the week this departure of our Finnish Wilderness Week visited, and whilst groups do not usually do activities together and mealtimes are normally staggered, we have updated our trip notes to include details of when two departures may be at the property at the same time (during some school holidays) so that clients are aware of this in advance.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you are reasonably fit. If you haven't cycled for a while have a practice before you go otherwise sitting on a saddle for a few hours can be a bit sore.Take waterproofs for the occasional downpour
