Brilliant Borneo

Wall to wall wildlife! Each place had its own wildlife and ecosystem – all of them were amazing. The people were friendly and the wildlife was prolific – a great tour.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were a number of highlights to this trip: -the bat exodus from the caves at Mulu - getting close to proboscis monkeys at Lahad Bay - Danum Valley (all of it!) - boat rides on the Kinatabangan River -wild orangutans (particularly at the Gomantong Caves)

Thoughts on Group Leader

Manuel was a fantastic group leader. He was calm and organised. He was very tuned in to our needs and made sure that we all knew what we were supposed to be doing, when and what we would need (i.e. head torch or long trousers etc). He was enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable. He was obviously respected by the local guides he worked with at each place. He was brilliant at spotting animals. Nothing was too much trouble. Manuel made our trip relaxed, comfortable and truly special.

Advice for Potential Travellers

When it rains it really rains so take a poncho as this covers both you and your rucksack. Take a water bottle which you can refill. Leech socks are available in Kota Kinabalu at a reasonable price so there is no need to buy them at great cost before you go.

Cross county skiing in Norway

Kvitavaatn is a great location. Frozen lakes, forest the mountains and the Hardanger plateau right in front of the lodge where I stayed were beautiful..

Most Inspirational Moment

Probabaly day 3 when I thought I had finally cracked the whole cross country skiing lark. I hadn't but it was fun trying.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mary our English guide was endlessly patient. Learning cross country skiing is bloody hard and frustrating at times!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring slippers as the Norwegians ALWAYS take off their shoes when they enter the lodge from outside so it's preferable to wandering about in your socks. Bring wax earplus because you share a room with 3 other people and there can be snorers amongst the group....

Great Trip

This gave us a really good overview of Vietnam and exceeded our expectations, as we have previously only been on Exodus trekking holidays and were surprised by the high standard of accommodation. There is a lot to see and do, plus plenty of free time.

Most Inspirational Moment

Too many to mention, but meeting and photographing an old couple during the free afternoon in Hoi An. I would also say, that having grown up during the era of 'The American War' , I was overwhelmed by the photographs in the War Remnants Museum in HCMC and so pleased to see how the country has recovered.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mao Long is a very good guide , who looked after us very well. He is a great ambassador for both his country and Exodus

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do not forget that it can be cold and wet in the North, so pack a fleece, waterproof top, hat and an umbrella is useful for the rain and sun. Travel plug adaptor is 2-pin round European. I enjoyed all of the optional trips and would recommend them to you.

Discover Costa Rica

A great itinerary with a wide variety of locations. A must for bird and wildlife enthusiasts. The colours are amazing.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were many. Spotting the quetzal and the suspension bridges at the Arenal Volcano are just two.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Guillermo was superb. He was so knowlegdable about everything. He was available 24 hours a day for us to contact if there was any problem. At 3.30am when the taxi organised by Camino Travel did not turn up to take us to the airport, Guillermo took us to the airport in his own car.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do not hesitate to take this tour.

Taste of Cuba

Not a holiday, more of an education, as expected. Cuba is gradually coming out of sanctions but the scars are still everywhere. The country is not ready for the growing number of western tourists starting to come.

Most Inspirational Moment

Departures at Havana international airport, when the luggage handlers couldn't keep up, the toilets ran out of water, the air con stopped, the 'cafe' had no food and the Exchange desk ran out of stirling, I realised just how much we take for granted in the west.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our guide was excellent, especially as there were 20 (!) in our group. She coped with problems such as casas that were not as described - some had shared bathrooms, poor plumbing etc. She was happy to change the itinerary when the group didn't want another cigar factory or wanted longer at one stop than planned. She helped some of us to find an ATM and a 1-hour internet card although we had to wait for her help as there were so many of us.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Arrival at your first hotel/casa will be 4hrs+ after landing due to slooow baggage reclaim and queues for currency. Take 2 rolls of toilet paper, plenty of snack bars, an umbrella or large hat, anti-histamines and paracetemol. Brace yourself for lack of internet! The shops are often almost empty but you can usually find bottled water - check the seal. Cafe/hotel food is very simple and plain but nourishing

We would like to thank Jaqueline for her feedback, although we regret that the number of clients in her group exceeded the usual group size. Instances of this nature are rare, however we would like to explain that towards the end of 2015 Exodus changed computer reservation systems and during the changeover process, all our bookings were migrated from our old reservations system to the new system. For the most part this has been a smooth process, but on this occasion bookings were taken in the cross over period before all the clients who had been booked on our previous system had been migrated across; as a result our new system did not show that the trip had reached full capacity so the group size was slightly larger than usual, for which we would like to apologise. We would like to confirm that this only impacted a handful of departures and we do hope that despite the group size Jaqueline enjoyed the trip overall.

Bhutan: Land of the Thunder Dragon (18Mar16-30Mar16)

Excellent trip packing in the cultural highlights, a festival, and trekking which is kind of necessary given the daily rate charged by the Bhutanese authorities! So probably the best and most affordable! way of experiencing Bhutan

a toss up between the Paro festival and the 5 days trekking

Norbu was an excellent leader; extremely knowledgeable and helpful in explaining his countries culture and showing us the sights, including an impromptu archery lesson!

Advice for Potential Travellers

For the 5 day trek I would suggest that people prepare for lower night time temperatures, possibly down to -10 degrees C

The Tropical South

This itenary was well planned contrasting activities and site visits. We enjoyed a variety of landscapes and scenery, including a good balance of nature and culture with time to relax.

Most Inspirational Moment

For us the highlight of this trip was staying at the Hill Station of Munnar and walking in the beautiful Malai Hills tea plantations. We also enjoyed visiting the splendid Madurai temple, the experience of the rickshaw rides and the serenity of the backwater resort.

Afshar our group leader was very friendly, knowledgeable and contributed to make this trip a memorable one.

Advice for Potential Travellers

For those enjoying walking the hills, don't forget your sunhat and walking stick.

AILP-Discover Sri Lanka

A really varied tour with something for everyone – exactly as promised. Beautiful country, great people, delicious food (and if they say “hot”, they mean it!).

Sitting at World's End, awe-inspiring view and perfect peace - before the bus-load of Chinese tourists arrived.

Quite brilliant. Easy to see why he is a 'Hall-of-Famer'!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go now. The first of the big chain hotels (Marriott) is about to open on the beach on the South coast so book early before everyone else does.

Iceland Northern Lights

This was a four night tour that really packed a punch.
As well as the chance of seeing the Northern Lights we saw glaciers, ice caves, geysers, lagoons, waterfalls, the black beach etc, etc

Most Inspirational Moment

There were a number... a double rainbow over one of the waterfalls, walking on a glacier (complete with ice axe and crampons), the brilliant ice blue and white of the lagoon with seals basking in the sun, getting soaked by an unusually large spurt from the geyser, the meals out with the complete group. Scanning the skies on the rooftop on the hope of seeing the Northern Lights.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Petur was totally brilliant. He certainly went the extra mile for our group. Arranging meals for us - and then joining us to eat with us. Taking us on unscheduled 'detours' to show us even more of his beautiful country. He was extremely knowledgeable about Iceland, the history, the people the geology, the landscape and he delivered his knowledge with a sense of humour. He managed the perfect balance of narrating the tour but giving us space and peace to enjoy it for ourselves.. There was a lot to fit in so he was also very good (in the very nicest way) at keeping us 'on schedule' for our various stops. Thank you so much Petur.

Advice for Potential Travellers

There is so much more to see in Iceland than the Northern Lights. Sadly we didn't see them on this trip but I had a truly amazing time and I would recommend this trip to anyone who has a love of the 'great outdoors' and the natural world.
