Very enjoyable and comfortable cycling trip

This is a very enjoyable cycling trip. Don’t be put off by the ‘moderate to challenging’ label – to us it didn’t seem more strenuous than the ‘moderate’ trips we’d done before and, if you’re on e-bikes as we were, you have extra power if you need it and can still get good exercise!

The routes were interesting and enjoyable. We had good weather. It was still quite warm. We enjoyed the ferry journeys to and from the islands. The e-bikes were good and the front paniers helpful. The old towns of Hvar and Korcula are lovely and of course Dubrovnik is special.

The three hotels were fine and their breakfasts exceeded our expectations for continental hotels. We ‘upgraded’ in two of them and had a family suite one and a sea view balcony in the other.

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling below blue sky, next to blue sea and looking across to the island or mainland next door. Others: relaxed time exploring Korcula old town; walking the walls of Dubrovnik.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alan was great, experienced, efficient, knowledgeable and sociable! We were a smaller than usual group, just five of us, and Alan was a great 'lubricant'. We had group dinners every other night and did our own thing in between. Great choice of restaurants and a special evening in Korcula. Good recommendations for in-between meals and where to get snacks for lunch. It was a super group and we all got on well. Lots of nice conversations.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We flew into Split on the Thursday. This gave us two nice evenings in Split which is lively, interesting and has good restaurants. On the Friday we went to nearby Trogir which is a world heritage site and another lovely old town (ferry there/ bus back). We did a guided walking tour of Split on the Saturday morning before joining the group after lunch. This gave us a slightly longer break and enabled us to see more of the highlights of the Dalmation Coast. Exodus booked the flights.

A Wonder of the world and so much more....

one of the wonders of the world done but so much more is on this trip and it changed my view of China, I’m already planning my return to see more as it only gives you a taste of what China has to offer, book it you wont regret it!!!

Most Inspirational Moment

where do I start from the awe inspiring great wall to the breath-taking terracotta army to the cute pandas and everything in-between. I loved the opera show in Chengdu with the face changing masks and stunning costumes. I loved dancing in the peoples park with the local people. the vastness of the forbidden city when viewed from above and the tasty food. seeing our leaders love for his country shines through and his English is very good you will be lucky if he is your guide.

Thoughts on Group Leader

peter was lovely it was good getting to know him and ask him questions about his life growing up and his family, I have made a friend for life in peter. he was always on time with getting us to places and giving us free time to explore on our own and getting us to places before the crowds ordering amazing food for us and looking out for the vegetarian we had on the trip too and didn't mind when we started a photo shoot with school children on the bund in shanghai.

Advice for Potential Travellers

you will love the trip its a good introduction to China - its food, culture, history and its people plus the hotels on this trip are so good too. read the trip notes as you will need a CCC power bank and don't take aerosols anywhere in China they will take them away

Amazing trip

As an Exodus Staff member i thought this was a fantastic tour that perfectly balanced nature, history, and culture. One of the highlights was the variety of experiences, from exploring fascinating cities and learning about the region’s complex past to enjoying breathtaking landscapes across the Balkans.
A particularly memorable aspect was the opportunity to enjoy home-cooked meals with local families, which provided a genuine insight into daily life. These experiences felt incredibly authentic.

Most Inspirational Moment

Combined with stunning scenery, insightful local guiding, and the chance to visit destinations that remain largely untouched by mass tourism, this was a truly enriching and unforgettable journey.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was exceptional and really brought the destinations and their history to life.

Advice for Potential Travellers

One tip I'd give is to pack for a range of temperatures, especially depending on the time of year you're travelling. The tour combines Mediterranean coastal regions with higher-altitude areas inland, so the weather can vary much more than you might expect.

Cycling, swims and flamingoes

A wonderful week of cycling, with time for sea swims, sightseeing and great food.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were plenty. I enjoyed the variety of cycling - through farm land, along by the coast; freewheeling down 10km. The stops for sea swims were special, and seeing flamingoes at the nature reserve was a highlight.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michele was a fabulous leader. He’s experienced, knowledgeable, looks after everyone and I felt very safe on the roads with his guidance. He has a lovely gentle and fun manner, he always picked out great coffee stops and restaurant suggestions. The group was fabulous too.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Ensure a good level of fitness, there are plenty of hills (or ‘undulations’ according to Michele). Mt Etna caused Catania airport to close so it took 16hrs to get to our first hotel and was a truly shocking day. As this is the 3rd time Mt Etna has caused the airport to shut in just a few months, I felt there should have been more support. I hope there will be for future disruptions. Despite this awful journey out, the trip was wonderful and I would highly recommend going.

Beautiful Jordan but rushed

great little trip to Jordan rushed from place to place would habe like a little ore time to photograph certain areas. our guide Sami was adamant to take us to the expensive areas and specific shops rather than the back street locals where we could have saved some money. An item from the jeep collapsed on me whilst seated during a freak wind eruption. fortunately not injuring e but extremely unexpected. Food knowledge good however the rushed walk through the market nd some dwn time in between a tiny bt restricted for the type of break I like. It was a first group holiday like this. the whole group was lovely sami helpful. Huge issues when we checked in the last hotel where my friend didnt have her room. cross allegations between the hotel and our guide as to the error resulted in wastage of the ONLY free day we had at the end. Not impressed.

Most Inspirational Moment

combination of places visited and the lunch up in the mountains overlooking jordan

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was good a bit too informative at time as it ate into exploration time.

Advice for Potential Travellers

totally dpe ds what you want for a holiday. if its race from place to place and not absorb it then it for you. however if you want to absorb the culture and mooch around on your own book a day or so before and after. so you can visit the surrounding area. jordanians deserve for you to mingle and see their products within the markets rather ten the recommended "friend shops of the guide"

constantly changing terrain and dramatic coastline

As an Exodus employee who has done only a handful of cycling trips, I found one of the real attractions of the Lisbon to Algarve Ride is the variety it offers, both in scenery and riding style. Over the course of the week, you’ll cycle a mix of quiet tarmac roads, coastal gravel tracks, purpose-built trails and the occasional sandy section, ensuring the terrain is constantly changing and engaging. Following sections of the spectacular fishermans trail, you’ll ride through rolling countryside, traditional villages, pine forests, dramatic cliff-top paths and some of Portugal’s most unspoilt beaches.

Most Inspirational Moment

One of the most meaningful moments of the trip is the visit to the Junior Jacques Distillery. More than just a tasting stop, it's an opportunity to meet the people preserving generations of local tradition and craftsmanship. Hearing their story and seeing how deeply connected they are to the land provides a genuine insight into rural Portuguese life that many visitors never experience. After days spent cycling through the region, it creates a powerful connection to the culture, people and landscapes you've been travelling through, making it a highlight that stays with many travellers long after the ride has ended.

Thoughts on Group Leader

João is the sort of leader who transforms a great cycling holiday into a truly memorable journey. What makes João such a special leader is his genuine love for Portugal and his passion for adventure. As someone who thrives on cycling, the outdoors and extreme sports, he has an incredible appreciation for the wild coastlines, hidden trails and untamed landscapes you'll experience on this trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

My biggest piece of advice is not to underestimate this trip. While it's a Grade 3 ride rather than a high-mountain challenge, it's definitely not designed for beginner cyclists. IF you know the basics come along, and the Ebikes are the best I've seen !

Wonderful Taste of Italy

I joined the trip as an Exodus staff member. This trip is a lovely mix of walking and culture experiences. The food was incredible and it was fun tasting each village’s special meal or drink.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing Matera for the first time is quite special. What a fascinating place!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ioana was knowledgeable and very easy to get along with. She is an excellent leader! She helped to arrange lunch and dinner reservations and was always spot on with her recommendations.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring a wide-brimmed hat as walks can have very little shade. The walks are fairly flat but you'd still need to bring proper walking shoes/boots.

First time Exodus travelers Croatia bicycle trip review

My wife and I travelled to Croatia and participated in an Exodus Travels cycling trip through the Dalmatian coastal islands of Croatia. The trip met and exceeded our expectations and our fellow travelers were awesome and guide Alan Skulic was fantastic. Could not have asked for a better person to help us travel and bike worry free and really enjoy the trip. We biked 100 miles in four days which was very doable for us. Great balance of free time and group time.

The accommodations were very nice – we especially enjoyed the resort on Korcula Island.

Most Inspirational Moment

We really enjoyed the group meal at a local, out of the way restaurant on Korcula Island. Super cozy and intimate and good food, beverages, and company.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alan was fantastic. Good communicator, made sure everyone knew the expectations, and was very concerned about everyone’s safety. As a local, he was very informative, and had good insights to the culture, customs, and norms of the land. We really enjoyed his company and would highly recommend him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I used a regular bike the first day and an ebike the rest of the ride. Super happy with the decision and I enjoyed the ride much more on the ebike. Everyone else had an ebike so that made a lot of sense.

Fantastic Hiking in the Carpathian Mountains!

This was a fantastic trip with a great variety of hikes, balanced nicely by a handful of slower-paced cultural and wildlife experiences throughout the week. The Carpathian Mountains are absolutely beautiful and still feel untouched compared to many of Europe’s more famous hiking destinations. The scenery is stunning, the villages are charming, and the whole region feels authentic and welcoming.

Most Inspirational Moment

The bear hide experience was unforgettable! We saw around 11 bears in total, including cubs, which was an incredible privilege and one of the best wildlife experiences I've had in Europe. Seeing these magnificent animals in their natural habitat was truly magical.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sebi was superb. He has an incredible wealth of knowledge about the region, wildlife, history, and culture. He made sure everyone felt included and safe and had a fantastic sense of humour throughout the week. A genuinely excellent guide.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Definitely opt for the optional summit hike on Day 7! It was one of the highlights of the entire trip. There is a bit of scrambling involved, but if you're comfortable with that, the views from the top are absolutely spectacular and more than worth the effort. I would also highly recommend adding a pre- or post-tour stay in Bucharest. The tour itself doesn't spend time there, but it's a fascinating city with beautiful architecture, great food, and plenty of history. It's well worth exploring while you're in Romania.

A perfect week in Albania!

The itinerary strikes a fantastic balance between spectacular mountain hiking and authentic cultural experiences. Albania’s landscapes are truly breathtaking – some of the most stunning scenery in the Balkans!
What makes this trip so special is how untouched it still feels. The hikes take you through traditional mountain villages where life moves at a slower pace, and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to meet locals, learn about Albanian culture, and enjoy delicious homecooked food.
Go now before it becomes touristy like the rest of Europe!

Most Inspirational Moment

Crossing the high mountain passes and the unforgettable boat journey across Komani Lake. Both experiences really showed the raw beauty of Albania and were absolute highlights of the trip!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Menduh was an exceptional guide. His knowledge of the region, history, culture, and mountains was outstanding, and he always made the group feel safe and well looked after. His passion for Albania was clear, and I honestly can't imagine a better leader for this trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go now before everyone else discovers it! Albania still feels authentic and unspoiled, but it's easy to see why tourism is growing quickly. I'd also highly recommend extending your stay. Spend a few days in Durrës after the trip, or rent a car and head south to the Albanian Riviera. It's the perfect way to relax after a fantastic week of hiking and explore even more of this remarkable country.
