Hi I'm going on the essential china trip and wondered if anyone has any advice about what type of luggage to take, I'm thinking particulary about the sleeper train, will there be room for a suitcase?

Hi Hazel, I travelled in a soft sleeper carriage (4 bunks) and luckily my 10" suitcase just fitted under the bottom bunk.
I was the only person with a suitcase, the other 3 had small bags which they slept with on the bunk. If you have a massive case then you will have to stow it on the floor but there isn't a lot of space. Tourists with big luggage often cause chaos in the connecting corridor on the sleeper trains, so be warned. Otherwise, I was impressed with the cleanliness and efficiency of sleeper trains. Any other questions Hazel, just ask.

Hi thanks for this, I have a cabin bag and a soft bag (but it is quite big) so may take one of those, I wasn't sure if exodus transfered luggage while we were on the train or not. Thanks for your help
