Cycling in Tuscany

Hi there , my husband and I are looking forward to cycling in Italy ...ive never been on a cycling holiday before , he has ...excited about the food , scenery and fun

Hi Rosie

please pardon my interruption to your thread but I am very jealous of your trip and thought I may be able to help!! I did the Siena to Chianti  the Florence to Lucca trips back to back last May. I absolutely loved them. Are you doing one of those??

things I wish I had known for my first cycle trip.... here we go....

definitely wear padded shorts and get some chamois cream as it really does work once you get used to it!! I would also personally recommend a padded seat as wel. Can pick up those gel seat covers for reasonable prices. A handlebar bag would come in handy for easy access to camera etc.

the trips are very well planned with frequent stops. Both the ones i did had vehicle support but only two seats available at any one time! It was much hillier than I thought so the level 3 trip involved climbs of gradients around the 6-8% and 300-800m climbs. the level 4 was more 8-12% and 600-1200m as a general rule. Obvs there is less and more in both. The downhills are amazing with switchbacks! views beautiful especially the Siena to Chianti. Food is amazing and reasonable cost I thought. Local wines are even better!! If  you wear clips then chuck a pair of canvas shoes in bag for walking the many cobbled streets when you stop. You will absolutely love it! Tuscany holds a special place in my heart and cycling is truely the best Way to see it.

have an amazing time

hi Sarah , we are doing the Siena trip ....thanks for the tips ...will get a padded seat , even with padded shorts ....dont mind uphills...its the downhills that scare me lol x
