That's great to hear, Lil!  I look forward to meeting you.  I do a lot of hiking here in the US, but this is my first Exodus Travels tour and first guided walking holiday so I am excited and eager to know what it's like.  -Ameet

Hi Jo, Dave and Rich

See you in Naples!  Got my kitbag today.  :o)

We've done Exodus trips before, but never hiking!   I've just read all the trip notes and wondering whether I should be buying walking poles.  Both of us are fairly fit, would we need them??  Anyone else got any advice??

Hello Lil.  I wondered, as did you, about the need to bring trekking poles for this trip since Exodus bills this as a Leisurely/Moderate trip.  I spoke to the North American Exodus rep and she recommended bringing the poles as there may be some areas where rock and scree present.  I recently did a week long hiking holiday in Montana in September and I travelled with the following collapsible poles, which worked really well for me on the steeper/harder hikes out West.  Here's the link: https://www.rei.com/product/877683/black-diamond-distance-carbon-z-trekking-poles-pair

I am bringing the poles with me since they are really lightweight and fit securely in my 22 inch upright carry-on luggage.  I am planning to do the Vesuvius crater walk that's an option on this trip, so I also thought the poles may come in handy then.

I am transiting through the UK (Heathrow and Gatwick) on my way to Naples and I realize I'll have to check in my luggage, as it's my understanding that the UK is very strict with respect to trekking poles in carry-on luggage?  Maybe someone can shed some light on this, as I don't travel to/through the UK much.  Here in the US, I had no issues (with TSA) travelling with my trekking poles as carry-on luggage.  Thank you, and I hope that helps.

Hello all -- I am also joining the Nov 4th trip; travelling from CT/USA and hoping all connections will get me to Naples in time to meet up with the transfer to hotel.  :-0

Wondering how large/what type of backpack everyone is taking - lite day pack or sturdy framed?  Thx.

Just booked the last place. Also flying from Manchester. 25l and smaller backpack I think - and maybe a pole. Looking forward to it.

Hi Kim, I'm on a later trip but I'll be carrying a 28 litre backpack with light-weight trekking poles (that fold down).  I'm also bringing my hydration system that fits into backpack.

...all for the info/details.  Have a friend just finishing up this exact trip and says it is fabulous - great weather, hotel, food, guides, etc.  Cannot wait!  Only days left til departure...the countdown has begun!  See you all there :-)

we are travelling from Gatwick with EasyJet and their website says that walking poles are not allowed in cabin bags (so I'm presuming that this is across the board) so you will have to pack it into the hold luggage!

Still haven't invested in any, but have a friend who is going to lend me hers!  As for back pack.... ummm... a small one!  lol!
