Kilimanjaro Rongai Route 21/09

Hello fellow travellers - anyone down to do the Rongai Route Kilimanjaro hike starting 21st Sept?

2 weeks anyone on this trip?

Greetings Phil! One here...

Hello

I will be flying down from Manchester and meeting the group flight at Heathrow.

Exciting times ahead and plenty of Voltarol at the finish line I suspect. Is this your first time up Kilimanjaro?

2nd trip with Exodus. Can't wait, currently rushing around making sure i've got everything sorted (no matter how soon I start, I still always end up doing this!)
How about you, anything similar before?

Yeah I am in same boat just finished the packing despite doing this kind of thing regularly and having boxes of adventure kit I still find I've forgot something until 2 days before or a glove has gone AWOL.

I did Kili via different route 15 yrs ago ( I'm 36) but did Everest Base Camp last year and done Toubkal a couple of times and few other mountains / trekking peaks. I love getting out into Snowdonia and places like that. I live near Peak District and climb / mountaineering amongst other things so enjoy mountains.

I've done a fair few Exodus trips over yrs and love the setup.

Summit day is cold so make sure you pack a good down jacket. Plenty of snack bars and a waterbottle as my camelbak began to freeze too.

Top tip split some of your essentials into carry on and wear your boots to flight as done a different trip where British Airways tried to send me to Africa in what I was wearing due to baggage delays.

You will love it once you are there, lush scenery and worth the trek. Just go slow and drink lots + eat little and often.

Did you get diamox ( not essential), if not is late but 120mg gingo balboa can make a good stand-in and available from Holland & Barret or similar - used in Nepal and Andes and does a job.

Yep, did basecamp a couple of years back, was an incredible trip. Done a few off my own back here and there but not to the same scale.

Did consider Diamox after a few people had it on Everest, but didnt in the end, however hadnt heard of the gingo balboa approach before...definately trying that!

Have gone for the split kit aproach, and yep, will have my boots on;) take up too much room otherwise!

Ahhhh... Amazon Prime you wonderful beast. Ordered some for delivery tomorrow

Well gingko works - they tested on French mountaineering team years back but told them it was diamox, same end result but less side effects.

Have diamox as just in case so spare tabs if you want an actual one.

Going to be a fun trip mate they always are as tend to attract like-minded folks. Besides people bond over a lent blister plaster or shared pack of Smarties.

I won't have an obvious Exodus bag ( its in a suitcase so my trekking poles survive Heathrow) but big dayglow orange daysack with small Pudsey bear on it should make me nice and conspicuous.
