Stok Kangri

Hey Guys, Anybody out there going on the Stok Kangri trek and climb starting in Delhi on July 26th?

Yes. I depart LHR on the 25th (group flight) - you too?

Hey, good to finally hear from someone on the trip! I'm not on the group flight as it didn't work for me as I'll be flying from Dublin. Most likely I wont meet anyone until I reach the hotel in Delhi as I'm going solo on this trip. Do you know how many are in the group? I was number 4 when I booked in March but didn't get any updates since. My name is Patrick by the way.

Hi Patrick, Jeanie here, great to have contact before our adventure. There are 5 total in the group - 3 solos (including myself) and a couple. I'm flying from Aberdeen. I look forward to meeting you and the others and hope we hit a 100% summit success rate! Are you taking antimalarials?

Hey Jeanie, I'm gonna pass on the antimalarials and rely on deet while we are in Delhi. There is a risk but I don't think so big in the city. That said I ain't no doctor so I could be completely wrong :-) No need to worry about it in Ladakh, just the altitude I hope, arriving at 3500m from sea-level will be interesting. The itinerary looks good, best I seen for this climb so that should help us get there. Have you done anything like this before? Been from the north of Scotland you must get into the mountains a fair bit...

Hi Patrick, no antimalarials for me too. I've reached the summits of Kilimanjaro (Rongai Route) and Mera Peak with Exodus. I also completed the Annapurna Circuit independently. What about you?

Hey Jeanie, I've been on a Gokyo/EBC trek, Kili via the Macheme Route and most recently Winter Toubkal. So it looks like we have similar experiences although I havn't been above 6000M...yet! How was Mera Peak? The view must be amazing from the summit :-) If we get a clear day on Stok Kangri, its possible to see K2 from the top...

Hi Patrick, Mera Peak was epic. Everest is in the background of my summit pictures. Exodus are excellent. With them, we have every chance of seeing K2 on 6 August! Did you go on their treks? I'm as 'high as a kite' just thinking about this challenge. Only 20 days to go!

Hey Jeanie, this is my first trip with Exodus although I remember seeing their groups out in Nepal. Those kit bags are hard to miss :-) Not sure I'll get one since I'm not in the UK. Yes, departure is getting close, will do a last training walk this weekend then start getting my kit ready :-) Are you bringing everything on the kit list?

Hi Patrick, you will not be disappointed with Exodus. I just bought a harness, karabiner and helmet in Ellis Brigham, Aviemore, so am ready to go now I have the entire kit list, except for a down jacket. I am superstitious and will wear exactly what previously worked at 6,476 metres. Meet you out there. Bring it on!

Hey Jeanie, I don't use a down jacket either, I'm big into my layers. I'll have no issue getting all the gear out to Delhi, up to Leh is another matter they don't allow much KGs on the internal flight. Some clever packing may be required. Don't think anyone else is gonna post before we go. Enjoy the rest of your preparations and I will see you out in Delhi next week!
