TYX: Kilimanjaro Rongai Route and and Safari (dep 12th June)

Hiya, really looking forward to this trip in June. Must start training! Be good to hear from anyone else on this trip, or tips from someone who has been already.

Cheers,
Kate

Hi Kate,

I'm also on this trip, and I'm very excited for it. A friend of mine who has made this trek twice tells me he's envious of my experiencing it for the first time.

The altitude concerns me a bit, but there's really no way to prepare for it. Near my home -- Boston, MA -- we have only the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and the highest peak there is 6,288 ft., or 1,917 m. I guess, though, if we get to take some time to acclimatize at Mawenzi, we should be alright.

Ngorongoro should be fantastic, too.

All best,

Jeff

Anyone going on this trip?

I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks,

JeffM

Having passed 60 this year I guess I may be one of the more senior citizens on this trip. Looking forward to it with a mix of excitement and trepidation. Like you a bit concerned with altitude sickness, but hopefully we will be ok. Done a bit of hillwalking here in Scotland but we have nothing much above 1000m.

I myself have hit fifty-five this year. According to my doctor, those of us over fifty are less susceptible to high altitude cerebral edema because the human brain begins to atrophy around fifty, so there’s more space in our skulls. You and I have an advantage, I guess. I look forward to meeting you and everyone else on the climb.

The Exodus people tell me there are six of us.

Talk soon,

Jeff
